Review summary

This was our 3rd Carnival Journeys cruise and it did not disappoint. Was our first time in Southeast Asia and enjoyed the ports of call. We were glad to hear that Maui was replaced with a second day in Honolulu, having an overnight in Honolulu allowed us time to rent a car and do our own exploring throughout Honolulu and the rest of the island of Oahu. If you have an opportunity to take a Carnival Journeys cruise try it, you will like it

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was fairly quick, dropped off our checkin luggage and was only in line for 10 mins. Complete check in process took only 20 mins, Luggage and room cards arrived really quick

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Had great food throughout the cruise, no complaints at all, best discovery was the Bonsai Sushi Restaurant, great food, fillet mignon for $10 was a great find as the best steak for the price on the whole ship

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Tried some of everything, being such a long cruise there where plenty of activities scheduled throughout the cruise, only disappointment was the lack of variety for the dive in movies

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Went to all the playlist production shows, Celestial Strings, Rock Revolution & Soul Bound were amazing, if you have these shows on your future cruises it’s a must see.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Fantastic service from our room steward Ary, Esther from Bonsai Sushi was great to us every time we ate there, awesome baristas at Javablue Cafe, Donna & Dianne, both knew my name and order and took great care of my needs though out the cruise The only negatives was the crazy lineups getting off the ship at all the ports of call, the ships staff where all overwhelmed over all the cruisers all trying to get off at once, this was the worse in all my Carnival Cruises

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Staff was always cleaning around the ship, tables on Lido was promptly cleaned once people left their tables, easy to get around the ship, lots of room to chill out, never an issue getting a lounge chair at all, that’s a first for us as on previous cruises it was next to impossible to find a lounge chair on sea days, maybe the 25 days had something to do with it

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Was given an inside stateroom when booked a year ago, more then enough room for 2 people, everything worked and we had no issues, we don’t mind the inside cabin considering our ridiculous low price for the cruise, gotta love those casino deals

Ship tip

Get to know your ship and find the great places to hang out, serenity deck, lido deck and deck 5 was one of our favourite areas to hang out

Ports of call

Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam

5 out of 5
Took an excursion and saw various places and history of old Siagon, loved seeing the Presidential Palace.

Singapore

5 out of 5
Singapore was great place to start our cruise, very clean city, people were polite and friendly, the metro system was efficient and very inexpensive to use, food was fantastic and really cheap, the “hawker” centres are amazing with so much variety and incredible cheap prices, one example was a soy chicken on rice plate for only $3.50 local currency, I was blown away over the price and the quality and size, lots of great places to see throughout Singapore, glad we went early prior to the cruise to enjoy this beautiful city

Honolulu, Oahu

5 out of 5
Found a inexpensive car rental company really close to the cruise port terminal called “Cheap Rent a Car”, daily rate way cheaper then airport price and made pickup and drop off more convenient, went to Byodo-in Temple, Dole Plantation, Aloha Stadium swap meet, Chinatown, Ala Moana Center and of course Waikiki Beach. Been to Honolulu many times and it never disappoints, love the local food and Hawaiian coffee

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

3 out of 5
Took an excursion but everything seemed rushed, was just ok compared to Vietnam and Manila

Cross International Dateline

5 out of 5
Fun ceremony on Lido deck to highlight this event

Manila, Philippines

5 out of 5
Did another excursion, highlight was the 400 year old church, amazing history, the buffet lunch at the hotel was amazing, served at a 5 star hotel and the variety of food was fantastic, the visa issue should have been sent to all cruisers prior to everyone arriving in Singapore for the start of the cruise, not trying to deal with it just a few days before arriving in Manila

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Took a very late zone as we had a late afternoon flight at LAX, when our zone got called the mad rush was over and had no issues getting off the ship, was really hectic outside with everyone getting their rideshare or taxi, Port of Long Beach needed more staff for traffic flow

Glad to hear the way back trip was nice too. I was on the one going to Japan for the ship to get to Singapore for its dry dock.
