Review summary

Overall, this was a very good cruise especially since we are from San Diego so it was very nice and convenient for us to just go to the port 15 mins before our appointed check in. Add to that the very smooth embarkation and debarkation. The port employees were all very helpful, especially the porters and the screeners. I can only hope that there will be a lot more itineraries and ships sailing out from San Diego In the future. Once on the ship, we tried to have the most fun we can have. We did not dwell on the negatives but always looked at the bright side. I booked this cruise because of the proximity of the port to us plus the cost which was very good at the time of our booking. I was just looking forward to having time to relax after the busy holidays and have fun with the rest of the family, but I can say that I had more fun than I expected. It was a very relaxing trip with the family.

Embarkation

It was very smooth....from the dropping off spot to the porters and to the port employees, I was very impressed. The easiest embarkation I ever had.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffet is average. Main dining room courses are good. Sea day brunch is very good.

Onboard Activities

Did not really find any interesting activity

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Was not impressed with the entertainment on this ship. The shows were not very good. The DJ is not very involved. The deck party on Thursday or Friday night lasted for only 45 mins and that includes the time spent for the mini lip sync battle. At 1145pm the DJ cleaned up his equipment even if there were still a lot of people waiting to party at the deck. There were groups who came after the DJ left , asking where the party is. We always look forward to those deck parties, but on this cruise, they lasted for such a short period of time. Nobody can say there were no participants because there were a lot of people ready to dance. The piano guy is the only one good and entertaining. He tried to accommodate the song requests we submitted and explain why he could not play some of them. (He doesn’t play the same song twice in one night and Journey songs cannot be played). The karaoke gal was just there to put in the songs, no interaction whatsoever with the audience. And I don’t understand why bee gees songs are not allowed at the karaoke but can be played by the piano guy. I just feel that the entertainment on this ship is not at par with other carnival ships.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The main dining room waiters, particularly elric, was very attentive. The room steward, although we didn’t meet him til Tuesday night was very nice too. He made sure to follow up on my requests.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I did not care for the ship’s layout. I did not like that I have to pass by the inside of the casino to get to the phantom theatre. I did not like that the mad hatters ball is at deck 1.... it feels like being in a basement. I feel for the guests on those cabins because u can hear the karaoke singers at the hallways. The ship was clean, I didn’t see anything that will prove otherwise.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
It would have been 4 stars if the toilet bowl doesn’t have the stain it has. And some of the towels provided were yellowish and thin, my husband didn’t even want to use them. Some days, there will be nice towels mixed with the yellowish ones. But the size and the cleanliness and the overall comfort is very good.

Disembarkation

Again, this is the smoothest disembarkation I ever had. And I love it that the vehicles to pick us up could park right across where we get out. It was very convenient.

Thanks for the review. We live in San Marcos and would like to see more cruises in and out of San Diego also. We are going out on the Oosterdam the end of February to Mexican Rivera. Makes it so nice not to have to get on an airplane.
