Review summary

I would totally recommend taking a journey cruise to Hawaii. It was an absolute blast.

Embarkation

San Diego cruise terminal seemed unorganized. The escalator to the gangway was broken so after being cleared to board the line came to a halt waiting for people to take the stairs.

Ship Quality

You can certainly tell that the ship is due for dry dock which is scheduled for early 2020. It’s dated in the early 2000’s style which I happen to think is whimsical and nostalgic. Although a smaller ship, it was actually one of my favorites.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Bed was comfy and the room was cool all night. I brought a fan just to help circulate the air but almost wasn’t necessary. It was a bit rocky being this high up but that was mainly due to being out in the open Pacific Ocean in December. This room has a slightly larger balcony than the standard. It’s basically deeper than others.

Ship tip

Spend some time exploring the ship. It’s really beautiful and everything is open for exploration on embark day.

Ports of call

Honolulu, Oahu

Easily walkable city. Visit the palace grounds, it’s beautiful. The downtown area has lots of old buildings. Rain showers come and go. Take a ride to the windward side of the island for amazing beaches and views.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Tender port. They drop you off right near downtown. It’s walkable but there are steep hills. Easy to get out an explore. Kona brewing company has a great restaurant with tons of beers that you can’t get on the mainland.

Kahului, Maui

5 out of 5
You port in the industrial area. Long walk out of the port. We took a Lyft to the Maui brewery. They offer brewery tours for free. The place is amazing. Another short Lyft to the beach for a great sunset.

Hilo, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Take a tour. There’s not much around the port. Booked a small group tour of the area and it was amazing.

San Diego, California

4 out of 5
Arrived a day early to see San Diego. The night life was fun. Lots of homeless blocking sidewalks. The area is quite beautiful though.

Ensenada, Mexico
