Review summary

After the disappointment of my husband not boarding there were other issues. No one told me that I would still be charged for double occupancy even though I was now sailing alone, nor did they notify us that all excursions and pre-ordered equipment would be cancelled without notice. I then had to pay for all my excursions again and fight to get my original ones refunded. I also had to jump through hoops to be refunded for the pre-sale items. The staff on the ship were wonderful and the ports were beautiful. I am just glad I was with a large group of family and friends. Still heartbroken that my husband had to stay behind.

What a bummer! I’m sorry your husband could not join you. Happy that you still enjoyed yourself amongst family and friends. Thanks for sharing your review. I read many similar stories to yours and I agree it’s best to travel with a passport to anywhere in the world.

Every port and customs is different you are safer with passports so lesson learned I guess you will always pay double occupancy check your contract it's part of there policy .. it's a shame your hubby couldn't go must of been very disappointing for you both but you'll sure be ready next time hope this doesn't put you off cruising enjoy

10 years ago, getting any documents was much easier. Try renewing your DL to the Real ID standard that will be required to fly in the US next year. The number of documents is staggering. It wasn't about Carnival s policy but their compliance with homeland security. Solo travellers always pay for both berths in a cabin, unless it is designated as a solo cabin (RCI & NCL)

We will have our passports next time. He had let his expire when he retired never thought we would need it, lesson learned.

Why didn’t he use his passport? We have found that to be the most hassle free way to board.

He also served 20 years in the military and has an indefinite ID card. Unfortunately we do not have the original form.

He had a certified copy of his naturalization papers not the original. He has gotten a passport with this certified copy but apparently it wasn’t good enough to get him on the ship. No policy states that form has to be an original.

Why was he denied,?
