We did a Western Caribbean cruise and had a wonderful time. We had been a little apprehensive in the past about a cruise but will do it again. :-)
Embarkation
4 out of 5
It was good and smooth, we were Faster to the Fun so we breazed through. The only small thing was when we got to port they made us check one of the bags even though it was under the size listed on Carnival web page. However, since we were FTF it was in our room in 1 hour.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We felt all the food was good. (The one exception was the lasagna in the MDR, this was not good.) The steak house Nick and Nora's was awesome.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The pools and hot tubs were nice, the slide didn't work well, you needed to push yourself along in places. It disappointed our son that you couldn't use the fitness center even with an adult at his age (10).
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We really enjoyed the entertainment, Clue, production shows and the Hasbro game show and Lip Sync competition. The PG comedy was also good.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
We were treated very well everywhere we went
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Ship was a little older but clean everywhere we went.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Our cabin was clean but there were signs of wear in bathroom sink and closets
We have visited Tampa in the past, we did not spend a lot of time this time but last year we went to Tampa and enjoyed the Aquarium, Bush Gardens and the beaches nearby.
We went to Chankanaab at this port, we enjoyed our time there and there was more to do then we had time. We went snorkeling when we first got there, we then had lunch at the park, we had purchased the package through carnival that included lunch and drinks. The lunch was good, nothing fancy but incorporated some typical American fare like fries and chicken nuggets with some tacos etc. Drinks were included as well. The service by the wait staff was very attentive. We then went to the sea lion show, it was a kids favorite. After lunch we did the tequila tasting. We unfortunately did not have time to do the rest.
We had the excursion for Bacab EcoPark and horse back riding. We took the tender to the port and then 40 minute bus ride to Bacab. Belize is a very poor country but the people are very friendly. The horse back riding was enjoyed by the whole family. Lunch was provided and it was an authentic rice and beans with stewed chicken and plantains, it was good and if your not as adventurous you can order a hamburger and chicken tenders. The pool was also huge and nice.
We took an excursion through Bodden tours. We paid for a car for the day and went to Victor Boddens Monkey, Parrots and Sloths. It was amazing. We then went to West End and the beach at Bananarama. The beach is amazing, yes a lot of vendors but they were ok with a "no gracias" . The guide did keep trying to sell us on a boat excursion to the best snorkeling but we had read you could just swim from the beach, which you can, go all the way down to the left and in front of Infinity Bay, I think. It was so amazing i would spend all day there. All the way out to "the drop off" (if you like finding Nemo) This was my favorite island, we will be back. The other islands we stopped at were very flat and this one had beautiful topagraphy.
We did the stingray excursion and Rum Point. We liked both but there wasn't a lot of time at Rum Point, basically got there ordered food and had to leave. The water here was beautiful. One of the things I noted though is the first thing you see from the ship when approaching is what looks like a hill but is actually the landfill. It is also very much like being at a community in southern Florida, as in it has all the franchises you would expect in one of those places.
