Review summary

Very disappointed with our first cruise. One week before departure Carnival changed the itinerary and we lost two ports with 3 days in Tampa. Their compensation was inadequate for ruining our vacation. We were looking so forward to Belize and Mahogany Bay with excursions purchased. Carnival gave us $200 on board credit per stateroom and a refund of $248. They tried to sell us on the free shuttles to area attractions and a Tim Rushlow concert. Not a country fan and I have no idea who he is. None of this made us feel better about our situation. I asked if Carnival would at least give us complimentary drink packages. The said no. Not sure if we’ll do a cruise again. If we do, we will try another cruise line. I think we’d prefer to just go to an all inclusive resort.

It was tropical depression, not Carnival’s fault

We did not receive a letter or notice of the itinerary change in an email, etc, only found out bc of people on here talking about it and checking into it ourselves. So there was an option to cancel, but if anyone says they didn't get notice, I will believe it. We canceled and glad we did. I am admitting that I don't think cruising is for us. We loved our Alaskan cruise, but it may end up being our one and only. But I never say never...

There was the option to change to a different cruise at no fee or a complete refund if you wanted to cancel. And I believe a letter/email went out notifying passengers several weeks in advance so it’s not like it was a surprise when you boarded.

Sounds like cruising might not be for you.

I’d rather have what you received than a ship with faulty plumbing.

That's why you should purchase "Cancel For Any Reason" insurance.

Too bad your itinerary was altered. It is in every line’s contract that they have the right to change the itinerary at any time. (Mechanical, weather, etc). Or you could be late arriving into port for various reasons. That is the risk you take booking excursions outside the cruise line (we book both ways). If you have trip insurance you may be able to get some reimbursement.

I prefer Norwegian. I use to cruise with carnival until they limited their cruises from NYC
