Review summary
The Southbound cruise from Vancouver, B.C. to Long Beach, CA with Port calls in Kauai, Maui, Honolulu, Kona and Hilo Hawaii on Carnival Miracle was to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary and my Birthday. We were impressed by the friendly, efficient crew, the wonderful dancers and singers and outstanding orchestra who never failed to give us great entertainment every night and lived up to the slogan that Carnival is "The Fun Ship". We appreciated the high security when returning to the ship after visiting ports. Each and every member of the crew and management made us feel like we were very special.
Stateroom 1217 is an outside room, mid ship on the starboard side on Deck 1, The Riviera deck. It is very convenient to the stairs and elevators. Its location was recommended by our travel agent as being a good choice for someone who has a tendency toward motion sickness. I did not need any of the motion sickness medications I brought with me even though there were some pretty good swells during our voyage. I enjoyed the view from the large rectangular picture window and the room was very insulated against noise & quiet. So quiet that we had to open the hallway door to hear announcements! Lots of storage in 3 closets with adjustable shelves or clothes rods that could be configured many ways depending on whether clothes were to be hung or folded. The showerhead is on an adjustable rod or can be hand held. Fabric shower curtain OK but I would prefer a shower enclosure door. There is only one plug outlet in the bedroom and will not accept more than one plug. We had to bring an extension cord to hook up medical equipment.
The décor of the main dining room and the theater a Baccus theme and a Phantom of the Opera theme, a bit gaudy. The Buffet area had many food stations, and great variety of choices. Good arrangement of seating, some booths, some tables, and well placed for the space available. We chose "Your Time Dining" which allowed us the freedom to eat dinner anytime from 5:15pm to 9pm. It worked very well for us. We were impressed with Penelope, the charming Hostess at the entrance of Your Time dining room on Deck 3. She always greeted us by name without us having to show our sea pass. Everyone of the crew made us feel very welcome. We were also impressed by how quickly we embarked at Vancouver, B.C. Our friends dropped us off at Canada Place and we were on the Carnival Miracle within 30 minutes or less!
