Review summary

Even up on level 8 (out of 10) deck, we could feel the engines constantly and it did get annoying. Also hard to believe, we got very tired of the food which had a level of "sameness". And to my distress, I received numerous insect bites in the main dining room while out at sea - no chance these were bug bites I received while at port. When I reported this to the purser, I was assured it would be addressed; however, the next day, I was informed that housekeeping had investigated and no insects were found, therefore, I must have been mistaken about how and when the bites occurred. Most sad, however, was the fact that we were unable to book any excursions online ahead of time due to a problem between the & Carnival websites. When we boarded the ship and went to the excursion desk, they were not yet set up to book anything and told us to use the television in out stateroom to book what we wanted. However, the television was no better help, showing nothing available. When we returned to the desk the next day, all of the excursions we wanted to do (you know, the FUN stuff like parasailing, horseback riding, dune buggying, and jet skiing) were completely booked.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining room food was okay; we upgraded one night to the supper club and it was better. The buffet was monotonous and we actually stopped eating by the 6th day.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The entertainment was the poorest part of the trip. Their casino left a lot to be desired, especially when a possible cheating scheme was uncovered at the Texas Hold 'Em table, and the management did nothing to fix it or compensate the players. Word to the unaware - check overhead for interestingly placed mirrors.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff really did make up for a lot of other shortcomings.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was pretty clean (our steward was amazing and did an exemplary job) although we noticed a few pieces of broken molding and missing light fixtures.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Balcony stateroom was reasonably spacious and always perfectly attended to.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Hard to get out of the tourist areas.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

3 out of 5
A much better option for a beach day; beautiful endless sand, nice calm surf. Skip the "outdoor grilled" lunch. If you like checking out wilderness, avoid the excursions and the beach, head inland and get off the beaten paths. Beautiful salt marshes and lots of local flora and fauna. Wear mosquito repellent.

Grand Turk Island

1 out of 5
This poor excuse for a beach outing was pitiful. You had to run the blockade of tacky tourist booths just to get to the beach, which was mostly rocky and slimy.
Don't Miss: Stay on the boat.

Pros: We had a decent balcony stateroom, could never have survived an interior room.

Cons: The entertainment was severely lacking; not enough to justify 5
