We had a really good time on this cruise. The price was good, but as with most cruises, additional costs add up. It's a good starter level cruise, but if you've sailed with other lines, you will be aware of the differences.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Fairly swift & was organized. Being able to choose check in time was very helpful. Once on ship, better direction would be helpful by staff.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Chose a sit down dinner only on last day as it was more fun to not have to dress for dinner. Mostly ate Guy's burgers (delicious), all night pizza or grabbed buffet food toeat poolside or during a break in our room. Buffet food was pretty good. Morning omelets were the best. There was a deli & wok station as well for more variety.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Not enough fun activities. Mostly stayed at the pool, played ping pong, watched dive in movies & played a few sessions of bingo.
Entertainment
Didn't attend shows.
Children's Programs
Cruise was to spend time together.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff across the ship was friendly & helpful. Cruise director & team were fun & engaging. Room staff was available and ready for anything needed.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Ship was kept clean. No issues.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Cabin was nice except for late night when the piano bar below was like it was in our room while we tried to sleep. Attendant was great & kept the room very clean. Balcony was big enough though there was a lot of rust. The view was amazing.
Ship tip
Good first cruise option or quick get away at fairly good price, but lower end of options, ship details & upkeep. We had fun, but after cruising with other lines, I would pay more to get more. Be aware that when you purchase a soda package, the only place to get sodas is at the bars. You will need to compete with all the drunk people ordering alcohol. They really need separate soda locations. Soda package is not usable in the restaurants or on Carnival's private island.
Beach was beautiful. Soda packages we purchased were not usable on the island. Nothing available geared to children. No shop even sold shovels/ buckets for them to play with & hard to find children's t shirts. Disorganization at the shuttle to go back to the ship. Lack of personnel direction & communication. Some of the shop people were unfriendly as if we were bothering them, but bbq & staff were good. Private Island could be an amazing day with some tweaks.
Thank you so much for the review! The Magic was my first cruise ever back in 2019 and I’m curious to see how it is now. I definitely agree with you on Half Moon Cay; there really wasn’t a whole lot to do there and hopefully Carnival’s new island will be a lot better
Appreciate your detailed feedback. Good lesson to others about choosing a cabin above Piano Bar. This is as important as not booking below the galley. We try to always book with cabins above and below. This doesn’t guarantee no noise (people can be unaware how noisy they are). Glad you enjoyed your cruise.
