Amazing cruise! Staff were welcoming and friendly. Excellent service. Fantastic itinerary. Beautiful ship. Thoroughly enjoyed this cruise!

Embarkation

Very well organized. Announcements were often made and great signage. Port staff were nice and helpful. We made it aboard the ship in a short amount of time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Overall the food was good. Lacking in some areas. The service was great. Ship was always clean.

Vela Restaurant

4 out of 5

Service was excellent. Menu catered to Australian passengers. We tried some items that we liked and some that were not our favorites. But not because of quality, just because it wasn’t always something we liked. Also, there was no complimentary lobster or steak on elegant nights. You could order a very small selection of steakhouse options for an extra charge. It was not bad, just more used to the American style menus.

The Grill

4 out of 5

No Guys burgers. The burgers were okay. Chicken sandwiches good. Hopefully this ship will change to Guys burgers in the future.

Lido Marketplace

4 out of 5

Rarely ate at the buffet. All meals catered to Australians. Food was okay but not great. This was formerly a Costa ship. The buffett layout is not the beat and needs much more seating. However was always clean and well kept.

Limelight Lounge

4 out of 5

This was formerly a Costa ship. The lounge was even smaller then on other Carnival ships. You had to arrive very early to wait in line and hope there would be seating. Most of the comedians were okay, only one was great. The bar service and staff were excellent.

Swirls

5 out of 5

There were only two ice cream stations on board. One near serenity adult area by the bbq (but it was out of service the entire cruise) and one by the burgers. So there were long waits at times. Needs more ice cream, lol.

Ol' Fashioned BBQ

2 out of 5

The bbq was not Guys. It looked similar but tasted awful. Disappointing but we did not starve, lol. Many other enjoyable options.

Serenity Bar

5 out of 5

Bar staff were amazing.

Sunset Bar

5 out of 5

Bar staff were friendly and polite. Great service.

The Carnival Deli

5 out of 5

Delicious sandwiches. This was always a busy area. The staff did a great job keeping the line moving and getting you taken care of as quickly as possible.

JavaBlue Cafe

5 out of 5

Great coffee, milkshakes and desserts.

Pizzeria del Capitano

5 out of 5

Pizza was great and rarely a long wait.

Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse

5 out of 5

Food and service was impeccable.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There was always something to do. We didn’t participate in all the activities. We did take time to relax and just do nothing. The serenity pool and hot tubs were great. The fellow passengers were pleasant.

Serenity Pool & Spas

5 out of 5

Pool, hot tub and lounge area was nice. The chairs filled up quickly but most people didn’t stay all day so chairs would periodically come available. There was a covered area with tables and chairs. The bar service was excellent.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Carnival Luminosa band was amazing. An extremely talented group of singers and musicians. They had a show in the main theatre that was better than the stage shows. Coco was one of the band’s singers. She was so personable and always smiling. Found out she was from the state we live in and we really enjoyed getting to know her. She even sent us goodies from room service with a sweet note. There was one great comedian but the others were not good. Most all the other entertainers were great.

Galleria Shops

5 out of 5

Several shops but low in merchandise. Staff said the ship had not been restocked because the Australian cruises were soon ending and different merchandise for U.S. cruises would be added when ship returns for Alaskan cruises. We met a nice young man working in jewelry. He was knowledgeable about watches. My husband collects watches and appreciated chatting with someone who knew the products so well. We enjoyed speaking to him throughout the cruise. He was one of the many staff we looked forward to running into.

Luminosa Casino

4 out of 5

Casino was small and non smoking. We were pleased with the non smoking. (This ship has a separate bar area, indoor and outdoor seating available for smoking.) Overall the casino was good. The bar staff was lacking in this area. They were short staffed so it was almost impossible to get bar service while playing in the casino. This was the only issue we had on the ship. Bar service in all other areas was fantastic.

The Carnival Store

5 out of 5

Again, the shops had limited merchandise. Told ship was to restock when Alaska cruises start.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
This was some of the best and friendliest staff we have experienced cruising. Everyone smiling and joking. Room steward, wait staff and bar staff always calling us by name. We couldn’t have asked for better service.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This is a former Costa ship. The layout was different but it was overall good. The ship is very well maintained. The ship was always clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were in a junior suite. It was spacious and beautiful. Plenty of storage space. Our room steward was amazing.

Ship tip

A positive attitude and a smile goes a long way. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Make the best of a bad situation. You are traveling, exploring and relaxing. Have fun!

Ports of call

Port Vila, Efate, Vanuatu

5 out of 5
My husband booked a scuba diving excursion with a local company prior to arrival. I booked a shore excursion through the ship, to tour several places around the island. Both excursions were great. My tour guides were knowledgeable and personable. Beautiful place.

Champagne Bay, Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu

5 out of 5
We did not book an excursion through the ship. We used a guide that was at the port who took us around the island to include a visit to Blue Hole which was beautiful fresh water swimming. We were dropped off in town where we walked around and had lunch at a great local restaurant. There is small WWII museum. The ladies at the museum were knowledgeable and kind. We took a taxi back to the ship. There is absolutely nothing at this port. You must do an excursion or take a taxi or tour to town. There was a very small area with a few local vendors but nothing else, just a parking area. Everyone we encountered were friendly and welcoming.

Brisbane, Australia

5 out of 5
One of our favorite cities in Australia. So much to do and see. Lovely place.

Port Denaru, Fiji

Husband went scuba diving with a local company that he scheduled prior fo port. He said this was one of fhe best dives he has experienced. I walked around the port, did some shopping and watched some locals performing a kava ceremony with dancing. Another beautiful port.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy disembarkation. Well organized.
