The price was reasonable, the Port was convenient for our traveling companions one of whom has mobility issues and uses a scooter. No issues with using the Scooter. Although the ship is showing her age Liberty is in pretty good condition. Shows were fun, games were fun, food was good, bar service was good. Certainly had a good time and good value for money.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
New Orleans Port embarkation was a bit confused. Signs based on slotted board times were unclear. Those who parked at terminal crossed over lines of those waiting to embark.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Main Dining Room was very good. Buffett proper lacked variety and on 2 occasions Roast Beef was Grey. Pizza's did not look appetizing and lines were horrendous. The Hamburger option was terrific. Delicious and hot off the grill. Sadly Hamburger station shut down at 6:00PM?? The Specialty Steak House was very good.
Diamonds Steakhouse
5 out of 5
The Diamond Steakhouse was great. Everyone's selection was perfectly prepared as ordered. Service Staff was attentive, efficient and not overbearing. Very Nice Ambiance. Well worth the $49 upcharge.
Seafood Shack
5 out of 5
I had some Oysters on the Half Shel. Fresh and Tasty. The Peel and Eat Shrimp were also delicious. Was a bit Pricy but worth it.
Guy's Burger Joint
5 out of 5
Guy's Burger Joint provided great Hamburgers, Frys and Onion Rings. Always pretty Fresh off the grill. Lines moved fast even at peak periods. Way better the average Hamburger Joint Hamburgers. One of the Best at Sea.
BlueIguana Cantina
5 out of 5
Very nice breakfast burritos. Good place to grab salsa for an omelet. Afternoon Tacos are Great
Victoria Aft Lounge
5 out of 5
Excellent Comedy Venue. Felt like a genuine Comedy Club. Good Service for assigned bar staff
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Pools are small as this is an older ship. Ship was over capacity with lots of kids but did not seem crowded most places. Pool chairs were available thru 7:30 or so on Sea days and all day on Port days.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Comedians were generally very funny, especially at the over 18 shows. The production numbers were excellent but only every other day. The number / variety of musical acts seemed to be reduced from previous cruises. In the evening seemed to be no place to listen to nice music and talk / hang with friends. Lots of trivia games. Seems like a lot of the bars were just not used.
Children's Programs
No Kids with us.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Across the board service was great. Bar service could be a bit slow with the bigger crowd bars. Room Steward was great. Restaurant service was really good.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Layout is a bit confusing. Aft Dining Room difficult to get to. Ship is old and showing her age. Crew keeps her clean. All the toilets functioned.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Good size cabin with Sofa and Plenty of storage. Old Safe that uses your Credit Card to lock? This was annoying as it was the only reason not to put the credit card in the safe. Balcony was small and probably not worth the money unless one REALLY wants a balcony. Queen Bed configuration split apart first night. Steward fixed the next day and not a problem after that. Furnishings definitely worn and showing age.
Ship tip
New Orleans is very convenient port for South Central US. Other than that I would generally opt for a newer ship out of one of the Florida Ports. That said last year we sailed Carnival ELEATION out of Jacksonville - also an older ship but they offered a real value for money deal. An old ship is great for a relaxing Getaway - Just be sure you know what you are booking and do not expect MEGA Ship wonders.
I opted for 3rd Party Van with driver Rental. For 4 people it was cheaper than any of the offered excursions. Driver was excellent we went on a drive around tour, stopped for Rose Hill Plantation tour driver took us to an genuine local Jerk Restaurant.
Thanks for the review. Glad you understand that the cheaper fare for the older ship is a fair trade off. So many people book the cheap cruise on the older tired ship then complain it is an older tired ship. Reasonable expectations is the secret to a great cruise! What’s wrong with Grand Cayman? Best beaches in the western Caribbean.
