Review summary

We had a good experience. Please give Donkey and Naru in the Silver Olympian a raise. We really appreciated all the staff's awesomeness.

Embarkation

Great. All staff was very helpful and accommodating. It was a little confusing when we got of our shuttle as to where to check our luggage and where to go so we just followed everyone else. But from the time we check our luggage to the time we got to our rooms, everyone was very courteous.

Food and Dining

The food for the dinners in the Steakhouse and in the Silver Olympian room were amazing! Everything was delicious. The Steakhouse decor was very pretty but there were a lot of chips in the paint on the wall where we sat. Not that it made a difference with the food. The Steakhouse chef paid us a visit to our table, which was a nice touch. Naru, in the Silver Olympian room, was our waitress (her name is longer than that but she said to just call her Naru). She was excellent. She was the only person on the ship that remembered our names. She was also just a fabulous waitress. Give her a raise! The availability for the buffets was very convenient. However, the quality of the buffet food could been improved a little. It seems like they made the same things everyday or just reconstituted leftovers from the previous day. However the staff was always nice, kind, and helpful. The guys at the Pizza Pirate seemed tired and stressed. The also seemed to be annoyed when you ordered anything except pepperoni pizza. In their defense, the pizza line was always long, sometimes past the bar. I think those guys should be rotated out more. Last thing, we had a soda package but the only place to get the soda was the bar. It would've been nice to get our sodas from somewhere closer to the buffet. The wait is a lot longer at the bar, especially when the have to make fancier drinks. Otherwise, the service was great and the bar tenders where very nice.

Onboard Activities

The gym was very clean, and there were plenty of machines to chose from. I wish there would've been better views from the treadmill. You can only see the ocean if you look down. One of the gym staff members approached me and was very nice, I can't remember her name but she was African. We had a very pleasant conversation. Unfortunately, I never got into the pool. Everyday it was just too crowded. We did use the hot tub on one of the movie nights that Wonder Woman was playing but then my daughter found a wad of hair in it. Needless to say, we did not attempt to get back in the water after that.

Entertainment

Donkey is amazing and needs a raise! That man is literally EVERYWHERE! His energy really made our first cruise a great experience. We attended two for the shows, Flix and the America Rocks show. The dancers and singers were so talented and put on a great show. My daughter studies musical theater and design and was very impressed with the lighting for both shows as well. And of course, Donkey's wig in the America Rocks show made it just that much better! Also, the game show was great!

Ship tip

Buy one of those lanyards they offer you at the door. It's so convenient because that's all you need while you're on the ship!

The island was beautiful and most of the people were very friendly. I didn't like that as soon as we got to the end of the pier, me and my daughter were bombarded by several well dressed men, attempting to take us on a tour of the island. Some were polite but more were really aggressive. I get that they're trying to make money and everyone has a hustle. It's just not a good first impression.

Disembarkation

Oh the delays! It took hours to get off the boat because people kept trying to leave for before there turn. I know that's not Carnival's fault, but it had to be said. Also, I understand that the ship has to be turned over for the next cruise, but I was really disappointed that despite the delays, we were forced out of our rooms so that housekeeping could come in and clean. It's unfair to force thousand of people onto two floors for hours. There must be a better way to disembark. According to the announcements, the ship was cleared around 7:30/8 but we weren't able to get off until closer to 11am.
