Review summary

My boyfriend and I took this cruise as our first vacation together. He had been on a cruise in his 20's but this was my first cruise. I will start with the disappointing aspects and then move to the good parts of this cruise.

We really enjoyed the late night sessions at the comedy club but the sing-along piano bar was disappointing. We have a dueling piano bar where we live and we take people there for special occasions a few times a year. The singer in the piano bar did his own renditions of songs so it was hard to sing a long to and he also kept calling up this one guy and his family to sing with him. I wanted to be chosen to sing along to the point where I said out loud "oh, this is MY song" (and we were sitting at the bar right next to him) and he called up a teenage girl who had just walked in after we had been the second group to enter the room that night.

We ate in the dining room only one night of our cruise and that was the formal night or what we knew as the captain's dinner. The dining room was beautiful and we were greeted by name as we sat but upon looking at the menu I noticed that steaks and surf and turf items said that they were $20 extra. I asked the waiter about this and he confirmed and I asked if that was even the case for the captain's night dinner and he again said yes. I ordered the scallops and although they were supposed to be sea scallops, they looked more like bay scallops because they were so overcooked. So the scallops were very chewy and there was also only 5 of them. We had late dining and it seemed like the food was cooked for the early diners and microwaved for us. The food on the buffet was better than the dining room but the burgers and pizza were the best part of the cruise! This is probably because they were cooked fresh and you could taste the difference.

We had some difficulties with the shore excursions with one of ours being cancelled but it was refunded and we were given a small discount on the next one we booked. The guest services reps were a bit rude with each encounter I had with them. I understand they deal with difficult things in their job but they do not have to be rude to paying guests who have questions about charges.

The cruise director Donkey, was awesome! We knew that anything he was hosting was going to be good after the first night. From his dance parties to the variety show to our favorite- the love and marriage show- everything he touched was gold! You can tell he has a love for his job and we thoroughly enjoyed all shows on this cruise.

The 24 hour pizza (I hope those guys get the tips I paid instead of the dining room staff) and 24 hour soft serve were our favorite part. We were in an aft facing room so both were close to us and we enjoyed staying on that side of the boat. We also took advantage of our Nassau excursion starting later by going to the mini golf, basketball/volleyball, and slide when there were very few people on board.

Overall, we had a great time on this cruise but besides the pizza and burgers, the food was disappointing. We will likely not travel Carnival again because it was very clear why the prices for this cruise line are so low. You may pay less before you get on board but you will pay a great deal on board (with Bingo and other "tournaments") if you aren't very careful.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Except the pizza and burgers, the food was not good. The pizza and burgers were cooked fresh and you could tell the rest was not.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
In the app it was not shown which activities were extra pay to participate. The only place this was shown was the paper activities flyer that came to the room. This should be added to the app.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
All shows we attended were excellent. The piano bar was the only disappointing entertainment.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
We did not travel with children

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Direct service members were not great except for the guys at the pizza place. Guest service reps were rude. Donkey, the cruise director, did great but we did not directly interact with him.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We enjoyed staying on the aft side of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This cabin was PERFECTION!! A large balcony with great views, especially on embarkation and debarkation. We spent a great deal of time on our balcony just relaxing and didn't need to worry about rushing to reserve charis or a place at Serenity. The size was perfect for the two of us also and was the perfect choice for our vacation.

Ship tip

Check out the Paper flyer about what is happening each day. It shows dollar signs next to things that cost extra where the app doesn't.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

Nassau, Bahamas

Do the Segway tour and ask for Codwiq!

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

The dolphin close encounter was fun and the trainers were very funny but I am not sure it was worth the money. The boat ride back to Freeport from the dolphins was beautiful though.

The dining staff will happily bring you different or multiple orders of a dish oh you ask.

It has been a well known fact for a while now the shorter cruises do not serve lobster anymore for formal night

My hubby and I have just had our 16 th cruise and have cruised most carnival ships and have never had a bad one yet we dine each night in the restaurant and if we have something we do not like or any problems they were more than happy to change but it really is what you make of it the meals in the restaurant are fresh and can not be microwaved if any food is send back cold then they send you a fresh meal had you have taken the time to go to the restaurant you would of found this out,,,, to each there own but we enjoy being waited on each night and any small issues we have had has been resolved so no problem it's such a shame you did not experience this ,,,,,, maybe next time on celebrity.

I'm sorry you had a bad time but I just got off the cruise and I had a wonderful time. I enjoyed the food in the dining room. I also ate the pizza which was ok but I'm not gonna belittle it because I'm not that kind of person and besides my husband enjoyed it. The burger joint and everything else was great also. If you wanted steak you could have gotten it for $35 more. Far as the piano bar if you didn't enjoy just leave. That's a lot of issues going on for a cruise. Just enjoy and I will be doing carnival again!!

We just went on the Liberty and they did do away with the Prime Rib and Lobster (for sure the Lobster) on shorter cruises. We found the buffet food much better. Well, that stinks about the piano bar. I only went my first cruise bc of the company I was with. I can see that...

Those were the steakhouse selection from the steakhouse that has a cost of $35.00 so if you don't want to go to the steakhouse you can order it in the main dinning room. The two main dishes on the first formal night is Lobster and Prime Rib. They have the Flat Iron Steak on the menu every night. Also I think you should have had dinner more than the one time before you say the buffet was better and the waiters in the dinning rooms work way harder the the pizza guys anyone can stand around and make pizza. I recommend that on your next cruise you take a tour of the kitchens.

how long was your cruise?

From what I understand, majority of cruise lines have additional costs as well.
