Review summary

We have cruised with Carnival many times in the past, but have never been as dissatisfied as we were with this cruise. Usually Carnival is consistent with their service and entertainment, but not this time. To start things off, the trio singing on the Lido deck while we departed sounded like bad karaoke, and unfortunately they performed all week long in other venues on the ship. The blonde kid with the white belt was equally as bad of a singer. Every time he would show up the crowd would clear. Hard to believe that is what Carnival considers professional entertainment. On the other hand, the DJ they hired always got the crowd inspired. He did a great job. The three Latino guys that sang on the Lido deck looked like they may have been crew members.....they were amazing. They had everyone dancing and enjoying their sound. The room stewards were terrific as always, as was the wait staff but in the dining room is was very clear they were understaffed. We waited 20 minutes between appetizer and dinner. Not because they weren't doing their job, but because 3 servers were waiting on so many tables. They were hustling but just couldn't keep up. The other complaint we had was about the food. There were some great ideas, such as the taco bar, but the food was so salty. The burger bar looked popular but the burgers and toppings were all so greasy. It was hard to find a healthy food selection. If you didn't want another iceberg lettuce salad with the same 5 toppings, you had to choose from the mayonnaise laden other salads provided. It was difficult to find a satisfying meal. We may be in the minority though. Not everyone enjoys healthy food. The ship itself looked a little tired. Maybe not enough staff to keep it up to top shape? It was such a disappointment after flying all the way from Oregon to take this cruise. The whole reason we booked this cruise was we wanted to see San Juan,  Puerto Rico. It was really a bummer the weather didn't cooperate for that. I really don't like leaving negative reviews, but we felt so unsatisfied with this cruise. We didn't hesitate to book with Carnival following the previous issues we've all heard about in the news. Our past experiences were always positive, but I believe the financial hit they have taken with their past problems have affected the quality of the cruise.

Ship Quality

There appeared to be a lack of maintenance everywhere. Unpainted surfaces, rust, dust, safety edges missing on steps

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room stewards are always so good at what they do!

Ship tip

Bargain price, bargain cruise. The old adage of you get what you pay for stands true here.

Grand Turk Island

Because all of the water excursions were cancelled we took a van tour of the island. Our driver was so nice and interesting. Loved his enthusiasm and knowledge, but the island doesn't have too much too see
