Review summary

The Carnival Liberty is a very clean and nice ship. The layout is a little confusing and the ship is difficult to walk around. The first couple of days at sea were rough and no information was given by the staff on what to do. Several people were hurt with head injuries. The capatain never told us how rough or long the duration of the bad weather would last. The second day the ship did make an announcement not to walk in heels and always hold on to handrails. This should have happened the first rough day. Most travelers missed the captains night as there were several sea sick passangers. After the first couple of rough days the cruise was wonderful. Costa Rica is absolutely beautiful for anyone that enjoys nature. I was a little disappointed in Panama as the only real tours are that of the canal. I did not realize until the cruise that Panama was dangerous. Ample warnings were given every day from the staff and the daily news letter to not wander in Panama on your own. As a tip, unless an adult drinks a lot of soda, the soda card is not worth the expense. Canned drinks were reasonable so if you want one or two a day the soda card is a waste of money.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food at the buffet is not varied and is of poor quality. This pertains to breakfast and lunch only. The dinner selections were better. The dinner in the formal areas was hit and miss. Many of the entrees were of poor quality and others were excellent. I learned to always ask the waiter before ordering.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There was a good mix of entertainment on board. We had 5 sea days and there was always live music playing at some point on the sea days. This helped make the day go faster.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff of the Liberty is the friendliness and most attentive of any ship I have ever cruised.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Cleanliness is excellent. Layout of the ship is confusing.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The size of the state room was good. There was ample space for clothes and luggage. Several amenities were given such as tooth paste, razors etc. Towels were always in abundance. The temperature of the room could be controlled to your own comfort level which was wonderful.

Ports of call

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

5 out of 5
I think everyone should visit the rain forest in Costa Rica. The guides were well educated and informed. We did not see animals on the canopy tour but others on this ship saw much more wildlife on the kayaking tour. If you like to look at vegetation the tram tour of the canopy is the way to go.
Don't Miss: The rain forest.

Colon, Panama

3 out of 5
There were very clear warnings about not wandering around Panama on your own. Most everyone that I spoke to visited the Panama canal. It makes for a long day. The best advice is to take the shortest tour possible to see the canal.
Don't Miss: The Panama canal if you can do a tour in a few hours or less.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Shopping in port was wonderful. Just sitting at the port swimming and using the beach facilities was beautiful and relaxing.
Don't Miss: You can enjoy this port without going on a outside excurision. The beach was beautiful.

Pros: Friendliness of Carnival Libery staff

Cons: Lack of information from the captain.
