Review summary

Any cruise is a great cruise, just not our favorite.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Arrived a little early for our 12-12:30 appointment. Went straight inside, through security and checked in within 15 minutes. Short wait until our boarding zone of A01 was called. On the ship and eating lunch on the Lido by 12:15 or so. Our room was ready upon boarding.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
It seems like portion sizes are smaller but not a big deal since you can always request more.

Truffles Restaurant

3 out of 5

Service was excellent but the meals were sub-par and lacked flavor.

Redfrog Pub

5 out of 5

Love the fishbowl happy hours! Fun venue.

Grand Buffet

3 out of 5

Noting special but do like the salad bar.

The Carnival Deli

5 out of 5

Made to order sandwiches were excellent!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Participated in many trivia contests and enjoyed ourselves. We even won a few. Unfortunately there are some individuals that feel they need to win by cheating (looking up answers on their phones), but this is a passenger issue, not a ship or cruise line issue. The 80s rock and glow party was awesome as was the mega deck party.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I love the ship layout although my husband felt it was two small for him. We both prefer the larger ships. Public areas were fairly well maintained. We did seem to have a lot of issues with the ice and tea/lemonade dispensers in the Lido.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The staterooms are definitely showing their age. The seal on our balcony door wasn’t good and the airflow caused us to have constant whistling noise in our room. We didn’t spend any time on our balcony due to a dripping rusty pipe and pealing paint. Our bed was comfortable and our steward kept the room very clean.

Ports of call

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
This is absolutely our favorite port of all we have visited. I just wish Carnival allowed you to use your drink package while there. Everything is on your room card anyway so it seems it is just an excuse to get more money out of passengers.

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
Love the pool at Margaritaville. Drinks are just ok. Facilities were very clean.

Baltimore, Maryland

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
The ship arrived into port on time. All passengers had to be out of their rooms early and pretty much just had one deck + part of the Lido deck to hang out and wait for debarkation. It was crowded in both locations, very little seating options and some passengers chose to smoke on the outer deck even though it was “prohibited” because the ship was fueling. Unfortunately the crew couldn’t police this as they were all busy with debarkation.

From what I read it sounds like embarkation is smoother on Carnival than on Royal.
