You only are charged on Carnival for the number of days you’re able to drink, so only paying for 6 days (and not 7) is correct.

It’s been our experience that it kicks in in international waters, so just late the 1st night sometime. If you try to buy the package onboard though they won’t even let you until the 2nd day.

You can drink but you will be charged Tex tax until we get in international waters.

out of Galveston it is a Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission law. All liquor must be from a texas liquor distributor. because of this rule, Carnival has a special drink menu, so some of your favs may not be available

Drink package starts at 6:00am on 2nd day..This happens out of New York and Texas..you’ll only be charged for 6 days not 7..The ship is also limited to Texas branded liquors on embarkation day..

Thought the drink package kicks in as soon as the ship hits international waters. So about 7:00pm on day #1.

Whelp. I was wrong. No bueno n Carnival on day #1.

It starts on the 2nd day and you are only charged for 6. With that being said, for me personally, I have found the drink package is not with it for 7 day cruises. Since there are 3 port days and you will not be using it for most of the day on those days as well as not staying up too late because you have another port the next morning, a lot of drinks are likely to not be used. That may not be the case for you, but something to think about, especially if you gamble and will get free drinks in the casino.
