Review summary

My comments say it all there is nothing else I can add.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Eating for most people includes a lot of options, so my husband was good to go. I on the other hand eat a vegan diet, not very many options on board.

Service and Staff

We signed up for the Chef’s Table meal weeks before the cruise completing the food restrictions area clearly stating that one was vegan. We were put on waiting list and received a table immediately upon arrival. However, we were contacted by the person in charge asking about food allergies. My husband replied there were no food allergies. I called to make sure they had read the area which said 1 vegan. We were contacted and told that 24 hours was needed to prepare s vegan menu, my response was “you were notified 3 weeks ago when the reservation was made. Do you not read the food comments section?” He repeated the 24 hour requirement so I canceled the reservation. Lesson-if you don’t require anything special your cruise will go off without a hitch.

Cabin / Stateroom

Upon arrival or bed had hair and black maybe fabric balls on the white fitted sheet. The outside of the window also needed to be cleaned. The sheets were changed immediately. All in all not a good start to a 29th anniversary cruise.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

Ensenada, Mexico

We took the shopping and food tour. The tour guide (Abner) was outstanding.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We purchased wine and were told to pick it at debarking on floor 7, not pick it up before debarking on floor 9. You can see were this is going-I had already been scanned out and asked were to pick up the 🍷 purchased on the exertion. I had to be rescanned to go pick up the items.

If I am to understand you were on a waiting list for 3 weeks, but didnt get called until the day of the dinner? That unfortunately is not 24 hours notice. They should not have called you without looking at your reservation first. The dinner is for 10 or 12 eating the same and to cook 1 vegan meal shouldn't be hard. But, to make it special. I dont know. Did you call guest services and make them aware of all your issues? The windows always need to be cleaned. They are on the ocean and get sprayed. I dont know what the schedule on that is. I know it's not daily. About the sheets were they clean with a (dryer) hairball? That happens to me at home. I know they pull all the bedding and wash. That's why we have to leave our rooms so early. Were you told to pick up on 7 when you came back on board? Did you double check that? There is always an info sheet given the last night of the cruise that tells one where to pick up their liquor. Did you not receive one?I always bring back at least a case of wine from ensenada. How far did you make it after getting scanned before being rescanned? Hopefully not all the way to customs. I would complain to guest service. I dont agree your statement "if you require anything special your cruise will go off without a hitch" I have cruised 10 times with Carnival and haven't had an issue with special issues being taken care of. You just have to check and make sure. You are your own best advocate. I hope your next cruise is better!

Do you usually find many options that are vegan on board cruises? My sister in law is vegan and we want to book a family cruise. Which cruise line do you recommend in particular?
