Review summary

This was my first cruise out of SoCal and was pleasing mostly for the getaway value. I would not recommend the cruise for the ports of call.

Children's Programs

I had no children with me.

Service and Staff

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship's design is a little dated compared to ships built in the last 20 years.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was comfortable but small.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

This was the place of embarkation and debarkation.

Catalina Island, California

3 out of 5
Catalina Island (Avalon) was nice, although it does not begin to compare to many Caribbean ports of call.

Ensenada, Mexico

1 out of 5
Ensenada is an armpit. We did the excursion to La Bufadora, which was mildly interesting but seems to exist only for the guides to pocket some cash for steering guests to particular vendors at the flea market.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We took advantage of self-assisted debarkation and were off the ship before 7:30 am.

I'm sorry you did not get to experience the real Ensenada! LaBufadoro is actualy 40 minutes from Ensenada. The wine country to the north of Ensenada is breathtaking. While the area around the port is no different from many other ports - hawkers galore - just a few streets east opens a whole new world of diverse and friendly shops, a spectacular cultural center/museum, restaurants and cantinas. Better luck next cruise!
