Review summary

I recently took a 3 day cruise to Ensenada (Carnival Inspiration) from the Long Beach port and I'm writing this as a stern warning to keep a very close eye on your bags!!! Simply put, do NOT trust this cruise line with your belongings. I checked in my bag to a porter when I first arrived to the entrance area of the building and that was the last time I saw it. When I arrived to my room I found that my wife had received her bags but I didn't. The worker assigned to my room said to return after 6pm because all the bags have not been dropped off yet so I went to dinner and got back to my room at 8pm still to find no bag. I went to make a complaint to guest services and they told me that they would look for my bag and contact me asap but I didn't hear from them unit the next afternoon. I went back to guest services the next day and they told me to continue to wait and be patient. I made due with what I had in my possession but this proved to be a huge inconvenience to me which made my trip very stressful. I made frequent trips back to guest services to check up on my bag and they kept telling me the same thing, that they were continuing to look for my bag. On the final day of my trip, and after being extremely patient, I went to guest services to figure out what I could do about my lost bag and the customer service supervisor says to me, "you are not the only person with a lost bag on this trip and that this type of situation happens all the time and that I would need to remain patient". Was this supposed to put me at ease and make me feel better on the final day of the cruise? On the morning of my debarkation, I received a note under my door saying that their records indicate that my bag was missing and that they applied $150 obc on my sign and sail account. The end result was that they lost my bag and gave me credit but it was no where near enough to cover the contents in my bag. After calculating the contents in my bag, the value came out to be around $1250.00 because it contained clothing, electronics, jewelry and high value items. I know some would say that I shouldn't have trusted their system and employees so much but that isn't the point. If their supervisor told me that this situation "happens all the time" then obviously there is a huge flaw in their system that they take very lightly and this situation will continue to happen to people in the future. People's bag will continue to get lost or stolen, and no one will be held responsible for it, including possibly dishonest employees. I don't think its too much to ask to get fully compensated for the amount of money I lost when they mishandled my bag and that is not even taking into account the huge inconvenience and stress it caused me due to not having these items available to me on the cruise.

What is FTTF???

LadyDnl    6 years ago

Sorry that happened to you.

Based on your experience, I too now am considering what I will carry on board.

I would expect that they would have offered you a credit to your sail and sign account for the value of items you can purchase on-board as replacements. If I was a Guest Services person that’s what I would have offered you for at least toiletries, clothing, shoes, socks, underwear and swim trunks.

Sorry that happened to you.

This it's why I get FTTF on carnival. I can board early, carry on my luggage and go straight to my room.

Lost luggage can happen to anyone while traveling. They probably handle ~1200 pieces of luggage. Majority of the time it is due to improper luggage tags or illegible/old tags. Not surprisingly the lost contents seem to include $$$ in electronics, etc. That loss is on you. Unfortunate that yours happened to be one of a few pieces out of hundreds that was lost but to blast the cruise line is excessive.

Jaxthefrench: that’s really unfortunate that that happened to you. I️ would be very upset too.

Wow thank you for the review and advice. We’ve only been on two Carnival cruises and going on our first Princess cruise in November. We have allowed the cruise line to take our bags upon boarding... we’re so excited to get on the ship. And so far, our bags are at our room right away. Upon debarkation, we take our bags with us. But now that I’ve read this review, I’m going to have to think twice next time upon boarding!

Carrying your own bags are usually faster getting off too.

We always walk our bags on and off. I have lost a bag before (full of jewelry)but they did find it and nothing was missing. I don’t really travel Carnival anymore, we prefer Princess, but no matter what line we travel, we take our bags with us.

We never allow the cruise line to take our bags! We learned that lesson when Carnival lost our suitcase! We did get it back finally buy it was pretty much destroyed. We carry our bags now and it is a little inconvenient but better than a lost bag!
