Review summary

A first class Vegas type experience without the taxi lines and the high prices. You can party the whole time if you want, or relax on deck or in one of the lounges. Lots to do, good food, friendly staff and diverse passengers. If you are a snob or expect luxury, try the Crystal or Seabourne cruises that cost exponentially more. This is a great weekend getaway at a great price.

Embarkation

Faster than normal. Smooth and friendly

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food is generally very good in terms of preparation, variety, serving and taste. This is not gourmet dining, five stars. if you want that go on another cruise line and pay triple or more. It's solid.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There is always something fun going on. Things get going in the evening. Easy to have a great time and being close to your cabin and not having to drive or taking a taxi.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows are nothing to write home about. There's a piano bar, though that is fun. The bands are generally good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The entire staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was very clean. It's a bit dated but for a weekend cruise, its fine. Elevators were a bit slow. Plenty of room.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Clean and functional. Average size for a cruise ship which to the uninitiated, means small. Beds and linen comfy

Ship tip

Book mid ship and avoid any floor adjacent to nightclubs

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

Just for embark and debarking. Huge parking garage fills up. Get there early. You can embark in the early pm and have lunch aboard. If you want to stay overnght, the Aquarium is cool, Pine Street lively and in summer the beaches are clean.

Ensenada, Mexico

4 out of 5
The usual array of drugstores, cantinas and mostly middling restaurants. Fairly clean. We hired a van and went to the wine country over the coastal hills. There are some excellent restaurants there and new wineries, a few that are quite nice. You can get a tour. The wines are nothing special. The countryside is quiet and peaceful. Lots of locals. Be aware that if you buy prescription meds without having a prescription, it is illegal in both Mexico and the US. Saw people having their Xanax confiscated by ship security at the ramp and bag /body scanner, supervised by a Federale with sub-machine gun.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Some lines and waiting on the ship.
