Review summary

First, the kids activities were definitely oversold to us when booking.  We were traveling with 7 kids in tow between the families that went.  The kids center was only "open" from 7pm-10pm in the evening, where they played movies for them.  Understandably, after 10pm they charge no big deal.  However, when dinner takes upwards of THREE hours because the service was SO SLOW you miss all the shows.  There was ONE family game night show that was kid appropriate and they had fun.  The other shows were definitely geared towards adults, my kids sat through them reluctantly but there wasn't much options for them.  I was disappointed to say the least in the entire experience.  The weather (which isn't their fault) was cold, they did not try to rearrange any activities to keep anyone, kids included, entertained while out at sea.  The food was TERRIBLE, any free hotel continental breakfast could compete with any of their meals including dinner.  We had to wait upwards of an hour to be seated for dinner each night, then took over 2 hours to get through dinner.  The staff was not nearly as friendly as any other cruise we have taken, including this same one in 2016.  Our dinner staff was rude, with the exception of our first night (where we waited an hour and a half to eat) but the food seemed to be all the leftovers ... we were onboard celebrating a birthday and two anniversaries where they didn't even acknowledge the birthday.  Friends of ours received things in their room with their anniversary etc, we did not.  I still have to go through our bill which we were overcharged for drinks etc as we paid for the drink package, but we were charged for drinks.  No, we did not go over our allowed amount in drinks either.  Nor did I sign for any charges where they were incorrect.  Overall, a one star is about where the entire thing fell.  We will NOT be returning to this cruise line, or probably cruise with Carnival again.  We specifically asked if they made any upgrades to the boat since our last cruise last year as it was completely outdated, lots of gold and old upholstery.  They told us at booking this boat was "completely remodeled at the end of 2016" and it looked exactly the same as the year prior with the exception of the Egyptian boob statues down the hallway were removed.  Disappointing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Waited 45-60 min to get a table each night with 7 kids in tow. Food was cold, old and overcooked. Definitely could tell it was sitting in heat lamps for however long it sat there. Wouldn't dare to upgrade to the "nice" meals, as the food we did get was gross to say the least. My kids literally ate Pizza and Chicken Nuggets the entire week for lack of options. Lets just say here, free is what you are getting.

Onboard Activities

One kids night activity. The game show. They had a great time. I wish they would have done more for the kids. They had a 50-70's show, then another 70's show. Not sure if they realize that not everyone on the boat was 65+ age range. Only thing to do is the casino. For a family with kids, they are lacking for sure. I would not bring kids on this cruise.

Entertainment

also outdated. The comedians were pretty funny if you could make it to their shows. They had an "all age" show at 8pm one night. My kids didn't think he was funny, they fell asleep. HAHA, which he cracked a joke about.

Children's Programs

We were told the kids center was open 8am-8pm daily and they had "a ton" of kids activities for them to do. I cruised at a child, and remember having so much fun. My kids were bored. The center was only open 3 hours a day except the day at sea which was from 10-3 and then from 7-10. The staff in the little kids area were nice, seemed to really care about the kids. Not impressed with their activities

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
In previous years we have had the BEST room stewards. Last year Putu was amazing, he even recognized us this year! We were not in his area he was in a few areas down. Our steward barely acknowledged us the entire time. The wait staff at the resturants seemed to be annoyed that we were there. Service was SO SLOW, we missed any of the shows. So we chose to eat dinner or go to a show which has not been the case in years past.

Ship Quality

The boat is in serious need of upgrading. The décor is old. Its VERY outdated. Glad they got rid of the boobs that were lining the hallway outside of the piano bar. My kids probably would have thought that was amusing.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Paid for the upgraded ocean view room, much better than inside cabin.

Ship tip

Don't bring kids. Pay extra to go on another cruise line or a nicer boat.
