Carnival Inspiration

5 Night Western Caribbean (Tampa Roundtrip)

Sail date: April 28, 2007

Ship: Carnival Inspiration

Cabin type: Suite

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 17 years ago

Review summary

The ship was overall very clean, and the main dining rooms and other public areas had a simple elegance (these comments exclude the Lido deck restaurant, which needs to be reinvented). The layout made it easy to navigate around.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Altogether superb. The dining experience was definitely the highlight of the cruise.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The evening shows in the Paris lounge were terrific, much better than we expected. During the days at sea, the only real options seemed to us to consist of the spa/gym, the pool/sunbathing, or eating/drinking. The day activities did not have much appeal for a middle-aged couple in our opinion.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Always professional and courteous to us.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship's main pool area seemed dated when compared to photos we had seen of other cruise ships' pool and outdoor areas. However, this was our first cruise, and admittedly have no basis for comparison.

Cabin / Stateroom

We had a suite on the Verandah deck. The room was very small, the balcony approximately 30 inches wide, and the bathroom mildewy and in need of updating.

Ports of call

George Town, Grand Cayman

Wouldn't go again. We disembarked at 9 am and had to be back on the ship at 1pm, so it was a very short visit. Fortunately, I don't think we missed all that much!

Calica, Mexico

Always a sure bet. We have visited Cancun and Playa del Carmen many times, but it never fails to disappoint. Great beach at Pelican Club for swimming/sunning.
Don't Miss: Tulum or Xcaret.

Pros: The food quality and presentation were generally excellent. Dining room waitstaff, particularly our headwaiter, were professional and efficient. The nightly entertainment in the Paris lounge was better than anticipated, with exuberant performers and glitzy costumes.

Cons: Our outside verandah suite was very disappointing. The verandah was quite narrow (perhaps 30 inches), barely accomodating the two uncomfortable deck chairs. As this was our first cruise, we have no basis for comparison, but the small size of the cabin was difficult for us.
