The Carnival Imagination cruise to Catalina Island and Ensenada was a great experience for my family. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the numerous activities they could join. All the adults also enjoyed some down time to unwind.

Review summary

Overall a good vacation for the value. Although we enjoyed some shopping at the cruise stores and during the excursions, we felt the push and exposure to constantly spend was a overbearing and were ready to disembark. The family enjoyed the majority of the entertainment and there was no shortage of things to do from our 8 year old to our 70 year olds on the trip.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Easy, Fast and Flawless

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining selections were very good and plenty of variety. The kids could hardly understand they could have more and try different options at each meal of the day.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
All experiences were great except the mini-golf. As this was a go on your own activity many of the families visiting didn't formally follow the course as intended. The facility was in good shape.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
All comedy, music and Karaoke shows were entertaining and well planned.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Plenty of activities but a little slow as the number of kids on our particular cruise was small so meeting new friends was a little difficult.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All were polite, courteous, fast to react and always professional

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We were a little lost for the first few hours of the first day, but once we walked around and were able to locate the ships map we quickly learned the best paths to excitement!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Always clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the animals created from towels which gave it that extra friendly touch. Our steward was very courteous and always greeted with a smile. A clean room made this an extra special experience.

Ship tip

Although we eventually figured out what to do when we entered the ship, we would have been faster to react if we had a "Pre-Board" overview of what to expect. Either a short video presentation in the embarkation area or a link could be provided by email at least 1 week before leaving to help explain the fastest ways to get engaged once you have entered the ship.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

4 out of 5
No excursions as we live in LA. Parking was overcrowded although we arrived quite early for checkin.

Catalina Island, California

4 out of 5
Very nice island and comfortable. No major excursion, just enjoyed the downtown area.

Ensenada, Mexico

3 out of 5
Port was clean and comfortable. Signed up for 2 excursions. The zip line experience was great but we had received incorrect information that prevented my youngest son from attending. Once we arrived at the park children much younger than my son were enjoying the zip line experience. The excursion down town for my wife and in laws was not enjoyable as there were too many pushy street vendors selling items which made enjoying the city less pleasant.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fast, easy and comfortable considering the number of people exiting. Dismissal by deck was a great idea and helped to keep transfer time to a minimum!
