Review summary

I had a great time. I splurged on an oceanview cabin and I loved it. I left the curtains open all the time so I could wake up early(ish), the morning light doesn't really keep me from sleeping in a bit, but I was excited each morning to see what would be outside my window. All the staff, with the exception of one bartender who must've been having a bad day, were outstanding; cheerful, friendly, and eager to help.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
It kind of felt like a long wait, but we arrived early. We actually were on the ship a little before our scheduled embarkation time (did not do the Faster to the Fun).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Yummy food and friendly upbeat waitstaff. I never really noticed the buffet being closed. There was a section that would be closed, but I only had to look around a little to find what I wanted in another area. Guys Burgers was terrific. That was my lunch 3 out of the 4 day cruise!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I'm not much of a gambler, but I spent about $20 playing one of the machines and came away with a souvenir Carnival Casino baseball hat. I figure that was better than winning the money back, since I would've put it back in the machine. I didn't take part in much beyond the muster drill, which I thought was handled well. They managed to be make it both entertaining as well as informative.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Went to the comedy show one night after dinner, despite being exhausted. The show was great, and I laughed and laughed.

Children's Programs

No kids.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
My steward, Eugene, was great. He was very friendly and cheerfull. The staff in the Spirit Dining Room were also outstanding.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin seemed really spacious to me. Even the restroom and shower were roomy enough, although I wish the toilet had been set a few more inches away from the wall so I wouldn't have to be rubbing my left shoulder agains the towels hanging there, but that was minor. It was great having a window and being able to wake up and see Catalina Island and Ensenada, not to mention the full moon on the ocean on the last 2 nights. The windows tend to have a bit of salty grime on them, but that can't be helped, and really didn't detract from the view at all.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

Catalina Island, California

5 out of 5
I didn't do an excursion, but I enjoyed the ride on the tender boat, walked up Crescent Avenue, bought a Kahlua Espresso milkshake at Scoops, and sat on a bench overlooking the beach and just watched people swimming, relaxing, walking, and parasailing. So relaxing!

Ensenada, Mexico

5 out of 5
I went on the Wine Country tour. The bus driver and tour guide were great and very friendly. I learned a lot about Ensenada that I'd never known before. We visited 2 wineries, each very unique, and it was a really neat experience.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
That was the longest line I've ever been in, but it never really stopped either. When you think how many people were having to leave at the same time, they did a great job of keeping things running smoothly.

Glad you had a good time AND a great cabin view. No more inside cabins for you I bet.
