Review summary

This was a fantastic first cruise for my 9-year old and I celebrating a birthday. The Transformers/My Little Pony theme seemed to deter the "booze cruise" groups I was reading about - only saw one bachelorette party on our particular cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
"Faster To The Fun" pass well worth the price to skip long lines.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Plenty of food and bars - we definitely ate A LOT!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The FUN SQUAD was absolutely FANTASTIC and kept us entertained the entire cruise. Water slides were a hit with my 9-year old. Surprised pool was salt water and two of the smallest hot tubs crammed with adults and children.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
EXCELLENT shows and entertainment from Divas, Game Shows, Bingo, Pool Parties and Farewell Glow Party - excellent music. Alex the Cruise Director and his staff are AWESOME!!

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Could not get my 9-year old to participate in Camp Ocean since he felt all the FUN was where I was, however the program and activities itself looked fun and convenient if a parent needs a "child break".

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
From check-in to check-out, all the staff was absolutely incredible and love how they remember your names.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was very clean - constantly seeing crew cleaning - and very well laid out floor plan.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was perfect size for the two of us (one adult and one child) - although we didn't spend much time in it. Our Cabin Steward Elvio was absolutely amazing - LOVED the towel animals.

Ship tip

Get on ship early and enjoy the day/activities before departing port (keep a swimsuit with you since luggage may take awhile to arrive at your room - unless you have "Faster to the Fun" for luggage priority. I would pass on the "Bubbles" pass as you need to get drinks from bars and sometimes very crowded, as well as still being charged tax on your soda(although very minimal). The included juice, coffee, tea and water would have been sufficient.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

5 out of 5
Long Beach is beautiful with very friendly people. FREE Passport bus to get to local attractions (Aquarium, Seaside Village, shopping, etc.) - driver would not accept a tip.

Catalina Island, California

5 out of 5
Rented a golf cart and did a pre-planned 12-mile scenic route. BEST homemade ice cream at Scoops and great Fish & Chips at Avalon Seafood.

Ensenada, Mexico

3 out of 5
La Bufadora was very cool, except having to walk through all the vendors harassing you to buy stuff was NOT cool.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
"Faster To The Fun" pass well worth the price to skip long lines - through ship security, customs and baggage claim in less than 5 minutes.

glad you had fun. people always try to say carnival is nothing but a drunk fest . i don't find this to be true at all. yes the ships are lively and there is something always going on but in my opinion that is what makes carnival fun. we have never experienced passengers behaving badly on any of our cruises. if anything everyone has been super nice.
