Review summary

The Carnival Imagination is a very nice ship, lots of amenities for everyone including a beautiful water slide with lots of play area for the kids; however, since this ship is used for both weekday and weekend short cruises to/from Ensenada from Long Beach, this is a party ship!  There were some very rude people on board, making the muster drill and buffet lines a nightmare.  Some people don't understand that the food will still be there in 20 minutes, if it runs out, they put out more.  It was like a feeding frenzy in the buffet area.  Carnival has gotten away from the traditional buffet lines and has gone to more of an idea of food stations, like a pizza area (which was always present), Panini, salad bar, grill, and hot foods - the jury's still out on this one.  The Dining Room was probably the worst part on this cruise, and it wasn't Carnival's issue, the food and wait staff were both very good as usual, but the party cruisers were rude and came into the dining room dressed like it was McDonalds!  There was a whole group of kids who came into the Dining Room in bathrobes, one guy had shorts and flip flops, and another girl came in with her old holey t-shirt and shorts.  Why didn't the staff ask them to leave?  It was very rude and not fair to everyone else who dressed up nicely as cruise lines request and expect.  All-in-all it was still a cruise, which for us is just relaxing, regenerating, and fun.  The shopping on board and all the service / staff was great!

Ship tip

Allow Carnival to select your room for you if you've cruised previously, they're very good about giving you the best available room within your selection (i.e., interior, oceanview, balcony, etc.). Bring extra money for shopping - the prices on-board are excellent and the experience so relaxing!

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

The parking and ease of getting into / out of Long Beach is great - next time we might choose to add an overnight stay at the Queen Mary before the cruise just for fun!
