This was our third time choosing Horizon. It’s my husband’s favorite ship in the pre-Mardi Gras fleet (love that one, and booked on the Celebration soon) as it’s a good size, fairly new, and has a lot of features. There’s always plenty going on if you’d like to participate. Cookie was a fabulous cruise director, the comics and entertainment were great, and we had a great time. I think I’m going to stick with 7/8 day cruises going forward though, it seems like 6 days isn’t enough to fit everything in.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very fast...onboard ship within 10 minutes of arriving at terminal
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food is always very good
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Did more relaxation than participating, but enjoyed the sky ride, water slide, sports deck, trivia games
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Comics were excellent as usual...Jersey was outstanding. The Rock band musicians were awesome. The stage show performers are very talented, some gifted vocalists and excellent choreography. Never really have been disappointed in entertainment provided, highly skilled performers
Children's Programs
No kids! The young ones we saw looked cute with their face paint and crafts, and saw some tweens who looked like they were enjoying themselves as they were begging parents to let them go back to their groups
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Always friendly and professional. First night in the dining room was a bit slow, but hey, were on vacation....not in a big hurry. The rest of the time, always greeted cheerfully by crew, even when passing in the halls.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Always clean and maintained. It’s amazing watching crew members constantly cleaning railings, walls, ceilings! In addition to the obvious bussing tables and mopping floors. Wish I were that diligent at home
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Frequently choose inside cabins and never have issues. The shower is a bit tight, and I wonder why there isn’t an exhaust fan in bathroom, but no complaints. I do wish there was a nightlight to transition from pitch black to turning on bright overhead lights (plan on setting an alarm, it’s easy to oversleep when it’s that dark!),and I always forget to grab one from home
Ship tip
Use the Hub app to track activities you may want to do, it sends reminders ahead of time...and expect to need your phone to reserve dining options and read menus (not a fan of “needing” a cell phone onboard, but I’m old school)
No excursions. Stayed mainly in Tourist area at port, but did venture out a bit. Felt bad for all the local stall owners trying to sell the same souvenirs trying to make a living, but they were nowhere as irritating and pushy as those on Jamaica. Found a nice little mall across the street with a local, talented singer/guitarist performing in the courtyard and stayed for a drink, and a restaurant at port area with tasty food. Souvenir shopping was easy and inexpensive
Chose carry off our own luggage option because of an early flight. Off the ship and through customs within 15 minutes of our group being called. Found out the$$ way that -rebooking/reserving an Uber in advance cost an extra $20 tacked on the fee, but first time ride share at this port made me want to know we’d get to the airport early, guess it was worth the peace of mind
