Review summary

We would recommend this ship and itinerary for most everyone. We enjoyed the ship itself more than its excursions & ports, however it was our intention. The DR is what it is & you must be vigilant, responsible, respect situational awareness & always stay with the cruise group, never go alone anywhere on that island.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We flew in the day before & stayed the night, highly recommended. We used VeriFLY & breezed through the embarkation process in 18 minutes flat. It pays to be rested, prepared and relaxed. Don’t be the last minute, stressed out, tired and unprepared idiot who causes problems for everyone.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food met my expectations for a Carnival Vista class ship. Bonsai was our favorite specialty, recommended. Guy’s burger joint and his BBQ venue was excellent. The seafood shack was also delicious.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Havana pool & bar, adults and members only area was nice, quiet & enjoyable. We liked the IMAX experience, it rained that afternoon.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I enjoyed the comedians and their comedy shows. The dance production show was also very entertaining.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Havana bartenders and our main dining room waiters got to know us and attended our needs quite impressively, called us by our names every time we saw them. Walter was our waiter, exceptional professional & experience.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was very clean & well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Havana Aft Extended Balcony, it had an excellent view of the aft contrails of the ship sailing away & the horizon, very romantic. Our large balcony was 90% secluded, you can sun bath naked without exposing yourself. The rest of the cabin was just a typical room with Havana decor.

Ship tip

Be courteous, considerate and respectful. We all need to sail for the common goal of a great time at sea. Have patience and leave problems behind. Cruise Happy, make someone smile who isn’t smiling. Life is once, Enjoy it!

Ports of call

La Romana, Dominican Republic

1 out of 5
The port was in its infancy. I wouldn’t recommend & didn’t leave the port shopping area. The town and surrounding area wasn’t developed and ready for cruise passengers. Poverty was rampant & infrastructure was poor. We had planned to go into town, but I demanded the cab driver to turn around and return to port after witnessing the conditions as described. We got back onboard and enjoyed the ship. We will not return to this port by choice, if we do…we’ll stay aboard.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

3 out of 5
Much better than La Romana. The port of Amber Cove was pretty nice. The town was more developed, cleaner & more spread out. The poverty was better managed and less evident. Wear a MLB baseball hat or shirt of your favorite team & you’ll be cheered or jeered for the common love for Baseball with impressive good sportsmanship. Go Astros! We will return.

Oranjestad, Aruba

4 out of 5
Island of Aloe. Decent port, we’ve been here before. Dry desert environment with lots of port area shopping. Buy local aloe products.

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
Our favorite of the ABC islands. Will return. Shops, bars and live music on the street, across the draw bridge.

Miami, Florida

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
It wasn’t the best organized, easy to cheat and cut in line, but not in front of me.
