Great to be cruising again with beautiful weather, islands and experience onboard Carnival Horizon.

Embarkation

Best experience ever! After going through proving vaccination status & TSA, no huge lines or crowds to deal with.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We went to 2 specialty restaurants for dinner, Fahrenheit 555 which was excellent! Great steaks and huge delicious cheese cake for dessert. Then Bonsai Teppanyaki was both entertaining and good food. Went to Guy's Pig & Anchor for lunch and was disappointed with the food. Guy's Burger was a disappointment as the staff were burning the hamburgers. The staff at the pizza parlor were under staffed and disorganized, burning pizzas seemed to be the norm. The dining room staff were great and so was the food, except for the strip steak. It was one of the worst pieces of beef I ever had, others were complaining as well.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
I-Max Theater was impressive, the comedians were great, and entertainment were performing well.

Entertainment

Didn't go to any shows.

Children's Programs

No children with us.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
I was torn between doing 3 or 4 stars. Key staff that we worked with like the dining room, cabin steward and guess services were fantastic, friendly and very helpful. However, on debarkation for the islands and return to home the staff were terrible. They were disorganized, not helpful, allowed others not listening to the protocols to do whatever they wanted. At one port, as I was leaving the ship I was told to turn around and go to another exit. I noted I had problems walking with a limp and preferred the exit I was at. They insisted I go further to the other exit making me walk more distance with my handi-cap. I complained, but don't know if this will really be addressed. Debarking in Miami was a mess, as they didn't create a structure that was organized, people following the protocols got usurped by those not doing it and the staff didn't care. With the new elevator system, they should have had staff there to control the elevators with the number of guests leaving. There were a large number of guest using scooters and wheel chairs they used only one elevator in the terminal. Considering the equipment and guests leaving with their luggage this was ridiculous.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was kept clean and I constantly saw staff using bleach water to clean doors, walls and hand rails.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is a corner cabin on the starboard side of the ship. Excellent condition and always kept clean by the staff. We loved the extended balcony, which was both very wide and long. One down fall, there is only one accessible outlet by the desk, which is not near the bed. Ask for an extension chord right away if you need it for your cpap. They have a limited number of extension chords.

Ship tip

Using the elevator, the staff did not tell everyone this message, when there are 2 or more people wanting to go to the same floor, each person has to press the touch screen. The more that touch the screen for the same floor, it is supposed to make it come to your current floor as a priority.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Miami. It was a great hotel on the channel for boats and ships with great sites to see.

Oranjestad, Aruba

4 out of 5
We didn't see much of the island as our excursion was based at the harbor. We walked from the ship to the catamaran for snorkeling.

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
We took the excursion to the beach, which they drove to various sites around the island and then to the beach. This was a beautiful island and friendly people.

La Romana, Dominican Republic Did not visit port

We decided only to shop at the market at the port.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
We did the excursion with swimming with the sharks, seals and dolphins. The ride to Ocean World was nice and Ocean World was fanstic.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
As I mentioned previously, this was the worst disembarkation we ever had. We couldn't leave when we wanted to, which is what we normally do. They made wait in the Liquid Lounge and when we were told we could go then it was a rush to leave. People coming for the next group cut in front of us. Those of us needing the elevator had to wait extended times. My wife didn't make it on the elevator with me and at the next floor I was sitting off to side waiting for her. One of the staff said I blocking the path and had to move. I had 12 to 15 feet around that was open, I didn't move. Then in the building there are multiple elevators, they limited the use only to one. Carnival needs to get their act together. Fortunately, Customs was checking anyone and we could leave immediately.
