Review summary

A great winter getaway. The ship was nice. Capacity is mostly back to normal so lines and chair hogs have returned. I think the Horizon may be my new favorite ship.

Embarkation

Easy embarkation. Arrived early and was through checkin in 15 minutes. Short wait to get on the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Speciality dining especially JiJis was great. MDR leaves much to be desired.

Reflection Restaurant

2 out of 5

Carnival really really needs to update their menus and the quality of the food has been on serious decline for years.

The Carnival Deli

3 out of 5

Food was hit or miss and I'm not sure how they thought those qualified as pretzel buns but still decent for a quick meal.

BlueIguana Cantina

4 out of 5

Breakfast burritos were so good as always

Ji Ji Asian Kitchen

5 out of 5

Worth every dime of the $15. Get the duck!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Lots to do on the ship. I don't like Erin the CD. She is major dud. I'm not sure how she still has a job as was awful on the Paradise in 2018 also.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I got to see Soulbound. It's really different and good. Not the best Playlist cast I've experience but decent.

Carnival Seaside Theater

3 out of 5

I do like to watch a movie under the stars. They do tend to conflict with dinner though.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff are great and doing their best even with severe shortages. Anna Maria at the Alchemy is the best bartender. Milan, the assistant maitre'd is wonderful. He remembered us from November and went out of his way to get us Baked Alaska at the Lido since we didn't want to go to MDR just for that.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I'm getting used to the Vista class design. I like everything being on deck 5 or 10 and the Lanai on 5.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Love the Deluxe Ocean View. The double bathroom were so nice esp the one with the tub/shower combo. I also felt like the room was bigger.

Ship tip

Try the speciality dining especially JiJis.

Ports of call

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
It is very obvious the island suffered while being closed to tourists during covid. Many many places are closed, boarded up and abandoned. It was actually rather sad. Still beautiful waters though.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
A slow, troubled process. Internet troubles may have been an issue but I'm not sure. Once finally off the ship facial recognition makes customs a breeze.
