Overall, this cruise was not worth the money that I paid for it. There was not a lot to do at night besides "party" which is fine, but for low keys nights there was nothing to keep us entertained. Also, the fact that they cancelled 2 of our ports and we got very little compensation for it ($100 and a 25% off next cruise only if you use it within 30 days is ridiculous) They know most people will not be booking another vacation a month after they just got off this one so the company knows that they are not losing out on this 25%. The cruise line cancelled HALF of our ports, and gave us no say on which port the passengers wanted to go on. If they at least let the passenger vote on the port they wanted to go to instead of automatically cancelling the DR ports, it would've gave us the option. But we felt that the option was decided for us we had no say. This whole experience has left an extremely bad taste in my mouth about Carnival I will not be booking with them again in the near future. I will also be advising my friends and family to look elsewhere as well, which is unfortunate because my family and I usually take a family cruise trip with around 15-20 people every 2 years and I was excited with this new Carnival Horizon boat. Unfortunately we will be looking else where now.
Embarkation

The process of getting everyone on board was very smooth and fast

Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The drinks were good. The food from the main dining and buffet were good. The late night dining was awful. It was the same thing every night. Everything had cheese on it or red sauce which I don't like either. There were no options for me ever at night. Also I don't know what you put in your food but it gave me extreme diarrhea and by the end of the trip I was completely sick and constantly running to the bathroom. I was sick in bed for the last 2 days on the boat and have not been normal since. My stomach and digestion has been completely messed up since the cruise. I know it wasn't the 2 ports because I did not eat while I was on the port. I waited until I got back on the boat because I know sometimes the ports food causes people to have a bad reaction. In this case it did not help me anyways because something you put in the food cause me to have an extremely bad reaction. I know wasn't the only one because multiple people on my trip said that they more than usual run ins with the bathroom. They fortunately didn't get the runs as bad as I did. I have been on 3 other cruises and I have never gotten this sick on any of them.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Besides Pool and water slides there was nothing else much to do. The hot tubs or "whirlpools" were never hot they were also lukewarm and the jets didn't always work.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
I feel like all the activities and trivia that I wanted to do was during the day while the sun was out. I feel like I had to pick either my activities or lay out by the sun and pool. Then at night there were never any games. It was just music and drinking. Which is fine but there were some nights that my group just wanted to do low key and play some games and trivia. I also was extremely disappointed that there was no lip sync battle. When we were picking out cruise this was one of the highlights that they emphasized. We did not see it on the app at all was was a HUGE disappointment. There were no shows except 2 days. The productions and things to do on the boat to keep us entertained was extremally underwhelming. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY CANCELLED 2 OF OUR PORTS AND PROMISED MORE THINGS TO DO TO MAKE UP FOR THAT. We also feel like the app also did not show every thing that was going on which made it hard for us to decide what we wanted to do.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Honestly the staff were amazing. We met amazing people on the ship that worked there and they were the best part of the trip. Our waiter Sumpenha ( I spelt his name wrong) was amazing and made us enjoy going to dinner. And the bartender Jocelyn at the ocean plaza (right outside the Havana lounge) bar was hands down our favorite bartender. She made the best martinis and she remembered everyone in our groups name. She was so personable and was the best part of our trip.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The cleanliness was excellent, but I feel like the layout was weird. I feel like I was constantly walking back and forth of the ship to get to places. I also think that there should be a towel stand everywhere there was a pool or hotub.
Cabin / Stateroom

The cabin was good size. I wish that on the balcony there divider could open up so we could hang out with our friends outside.
There should be a bus or shuttle that would take guests to a from the boat so we are not using the public transportation and take the risk of getting lost or scammed.

THE CANCELED THIS PORT DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE BOAT. IT WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING SNCE THIS WAS THE ONLY REASON WHY I TOOK THIS SPCIFIC CRUISE. I WANTED TO GO THE DR. THEY COULD'VE AT LEAST GAVE THE PASSENGERS AN OPTION TO VOTE ON WHICH PORT THEY WANTED TO GO ON. AGAIN VERY DISAPPOINTED EXPECIALLY SINCE WE DID NOT GET REIMBURESED FOR HALF OF OUR TRIP GETTING CANCELLED. FOR THIS REASON AND THE LACK/ POOR ENTERTAINMENTAND THE LACK OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBLITY THAT WAS TAKEN WHEN OUR PORTS WERE CANCELLED I WILL NOT BE TAKING CARNIVAL AGAIN.

The area that they made us wait was extremely hot and stufft with no AC. I almost passed out and had to sit down. Then we had to wait because the escalator broke and they had to fix it. the embarkation was a lot more smooth than the disembarkation
**2500 people crammed into the theater**
āOk, by a show of hands who wants to go to the DR?ā
ššš you shouldnāt be cruising bud. Book an all inclusive beach vacation. They have them in the Dominican lol
š Carnival didn't owe you anything, I'm sure that they would have rather not had to cancel the ports. But then they also don't feel entitled. But they did offer compensation to you and everyone one else on that cruise. I'll bet they lost money on that cruise but you still expect more? š¤¦
The balcony the fighter is usually only opened when they clean before boarding; but you can have it opened if you have connecting staterooms, I would assume. But sadly the cruising lines don't refund a portion of the cruise fare for missed ports, only port fees and taxes.
Your squirts š¤¢š¤® may have been the Norovirus or possibly food poisoning. š·šµ Well, regarding your food choices: you can request a diet menu prior to the cruise or before dinner by speaking to the Dining Supervisor or whoever is in charge. This is what I did for my Norwegian Bliss cruise.
CRUISEĀ CANCELLATIONĀ AND ITINERARY CHANGE POLICY
Carnival reserves the right toĀ cancelĀ or substitute any scheduledĀ portĀ of call at any time and for any reason whatsoever without prior notice and shall not be liable for any loss to guests by reason of suchĀ cancellationĀ or substitution.
This policy can also be found in Section 7 of yourĀ Cruise Ticket Contract.
Your suggestion to have 2500 people VOTE on where they want to go is ridiculous. That would be a logistical nightmare. Iām sure considering it was an engine problem it was decided that you would go to the closest ports to make sure you still get back on time. Perhaps smaller ships are more for you.
Sounds like Norovirus. Your cruise agreement does not guarantee ports only the cruise. All cruise lines cancel ports or change ports, a fact of cruising.
