Review summary

After having 2 cruises cancelled by the pandemic, I was really looking forward to this cruise. This was the newest Carnival ship I’ve been on, and I REALLY enjoyed the numerous specialty restaurants, and special features like the SkyRide and IMAX Theatre. In addition, I had never been to 3 of the ports on this cruise and really enjoyed them. Carnival, as always, has a top-notch crew and plenty of activities to keep cruisers occupied.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was one of the easiest I’ve experienced. Arrived at the port at 12:15 and was on the ship within 15 minutes!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food in the main dining room was improved from my last Carnival cruise (in 2017), but I particularly liked all of the specialty restaurants (Steakhouse, Italian, Asian, Smokehouse)

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There was always something to do. I particularly enjoyed the IMAX theater and the Trivia games.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the poolside DJ (DJ Skoot) and the stage shows were truly impressive.

Children's Programs

No children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
As always, the service from the wait team and room steward was impeccable. The entire team had a happy attitude and it reflected across the entire ship.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Love the layout of the Horizon. Easy to get places. Only one deck required going up or down a level to access more of that deck (3rd).

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin size was fine. Plenty of storage. Like the more modern design compared to Carnival’s older ships. No problem with cleanliness.

Ship tip

Try the specialty restaurants. They are REALLY good!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
Didn’t get to see much of Miami but it IS a vibrant major city with an impressive skyline!

Oranjestad, Aruba

5 out of 5
Took a Jeep tour along the North coast and saw a lot of the island. Lots of varied terrain (from desert-like interior to beautiful beaches).

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
Loved the colorful buildings. Visited the top of the highest mountain for amazing views and enjoyed the Curacao Museum and the Curacao Liquor Distillery.

La Romana, Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
Toured Altos de Chavon inside Casa de Campo and then took a riverboat ride on the Chavon River. Beautiful wildlife.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
Took a tour to the top of the highest mountain and visited downtown Puerto Plata. I had been here over 30 years ago and it was surprising how much had changed.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Most orderly disembarkation I’ve ever done. Got off the ship quickly, was able to find my bag easily and get transport to the Miami airport!
