Review summary

I would recommend the horizon. This cruise was larger than my first and you can definitely tell there are more people. But I never really had to wait in any crazy lines. Also the dive in movie is great and they even have popcorn.

Embarkation

Getting on the ship was a breeze! We chose parking not associated with the port. It was supposed to include transfers to the ship. We waited 2 hours for a shuttle before we got an Uber, so do your homework.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

All the food was good, not great. Also they cook with a lot of salt which I’m not used to. The burgers at Guys burger joint are delicious! Also the toco bowls at blue iguana are great!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We attempted to try everything. The sky ride was great but short. It was ok since we didn’t have to wait long in line. We did this on embarkation day, I read it was a good time to avoid lines. My daughter loved the ropes course. Both my kids age 10 and 5 loved the water slides. The water was cold, but that didn’t stop them. We went to 2 different shows in the thrill theater which were entertaining but very short (15 mins). Also there was an extra fee.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I only made it to one stage show and the hasbro game show. The theater show was great. Lots of good music, singers and dancers. I saw the second of the comedians. He was ok, I heard the first guy was funnier.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
My 10 year old liked the kids program and went a few times, my 5 year old did not and stayed with me most of the time.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I love how everyone called you by name, it makes you feel important and taken care of.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was very clean. I loved the automatic hand wash stations, they should have them everywhere

Cabin / Stateroom

Bed was small but comfortable and I would love to know what kind of pillows they use...I was in love.

Ship tip

On sea days the bbq and Asian restaurant have a free buffet...try them!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Very busy... too many ships boarding and unboarding at the same time.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

We did an excursion to Dunn’s river falls and dolphin cove. Walking up the falls was too much for me, I thought it was terrifying....lol. My 5 yr old and myself quit 1/2 way up. There were too many people there....but they all looked to be having a great time. The rest of our group finished with no problems. By the time we got to dolphin cove we had like 20 minutes, so good thing we did not pay extra to swim with the dolphins because we would not have time. There is also a small beach at dolphin cove that was covered in garbage. They offered to let the kids use the water slide, but it was rusty and looked to be falling down. Don’t forget cash very few of the places we went accepted credit cards. Also everyone expects to be tipped and they are not shy about asking for it.

George Town, Grand Cayman

This is my favorite. My second visit to this port. Very safe and clean. No excursion needed here. We hopped on the city bus for $2.50 per person we went to Hell and then the public access beach on 7 mile beach. Here you can rent a chair for $5 and get WiFi for the day. We got there just in time, the beach filled up quick. The water is blue and warm! Not much for food options though. There were some locals making and selling food.

Cozumel, Mexico

The port area here is very clean and safe. We took a taxi to paradise beach club. They have bathrooms, a pool, a bar and restaurant. It’s only $3 to get in. They also ask you spend $10 per person on food and drink while you’re there. We got chairs on the beach and free WiFi. They also had blow ups in the ocean to play on for an extra fee. The ocean was too rough the day we were there to go in. We used the giant pool which was great.

Disembarkation

Getting off the ship in Miami and the horizon was easy. I guess it has to do with facial recognition. It’s one of the only ships that has this. Just be prepared to wait for elevators.

Thanks . Sounds great . I’m doing the same trip with my 10 year old . Already planned on the same activities in Mexico and grand cayman. Not sure I want to do much in Jamaica .
