Review summary

My extended family of 14 did this cruise over Christmas. We had been on a Carnival cruise a few years ago over Christmas and had been disappointed then at the lack of anything "Christmas-y" beyond a Santa visit on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. This time, there was a very nice midnight service with hymns and the Bible account read. Thanks, Carnival. The ship itself is beautiful. I've never cruised on Royal Caribbean, but that's the only line my sister uses. She said RC ships have a big central area that she really missed on this ship, but as I said, I didn't notice it as something missing. We actually never had trouble getting lounge chairs at the pool. Likewise, we could always find places for quiet reading on a deck or an outside table to play cards on. The food was great--some of the best we've ever had on a cruise. The staff was wonderful. We tend to cruise on Princess or Celebrity as all of our kids are grown and we aren't interested in being around a lot of children, but if you're considering this ship for a family cruise, I'd highly recommend it.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We thought all the food, no matter which venue, was outstanding--some of the best cruise food we've had. Guy's Burgers and the BlueIguana taco/burrito bar were standouts.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There were 14 of us ranging from 14 to 75. Everyone found plenty to do.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We love Carnival for their comedians, and this cruise didn't disappoint!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our waitstaff and cabin steward knew our names immediately, and provided personable, excellent, cheerful service throughout our cruise.

Ship Quality

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
Miami is a beautiful port to sail from. Horrible airport, but that's another matter.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Ugh. Dirty. Touristy. We felt descended upon and harassed at every step.

George Town, Grand Cayman

3 out of 5
Typical Caribbean stop--nothing special but nothing negative.

Cozumel, Mexico

1 out of 5
We docked at a different location than on previous visits. This time, we had to be funneled through a duty-free shop that was loud, crowded, and awful. It dumped out on another typical port tourist area of little stands hawking typical tourist merchandise.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth and stress-free.

What deck was that on?

we were on the same Cruise & I have to agree... We never had a problem finding a place to sit on deck... Now the buffet area was a different story...lol.... We found an area that felt like our own deck because every time we went there there was no one there... It was really nice area for quality time with my hubby
