Review summary
This is our 4th cruise. 1st on Carnival. Comparing this cruise with the others, this is ranked 3rd. Our Norwegian cruise was the best on board experience. My top desire on a cruise is to be provided with a good dining experience. This was among the worst we've experienced. Choices were so limited, my wife had omelets for breakfast every morning. We decided to have our 1st evening dinner formally. The service was excellent, both ladies were 1st class. but the food was below expectation. I had the salmon. My impression; it was taken from the refrigerator, placed in a skillet with a little oil, broiled and sent to the table to be seasoned with salt & pepper. My wife had the shrimp. She does not eat fried batter. After removing the batter, there was this tiny shrimp poking out. This was not a chef's best presentation. We opted to have the rest of our dinners at the buffet. The steak defied the steak knife & was only chewable. One night we had the Ribs. It appeared to be boiled. After removing the fat there was not much else remaining worth eating. Once I had a pork chop. I held it in my hand and ate it like a cracker it was so thin & crisp. For breakfast. Twice bacon was served. It was difficult breaking it apart as they stuck together, and a paper towel was needed to remove the excess grease. The pancakes were undercooked and doughy in texture. The pizza was an oversized cracker, partially burnt with barely any cheese and some pepperoni on top. There were so many other poorly prepared items. Obviously, my wife thought the omelets were the best item on the breakfast menu. I'm not much of an egg eater. Some men go on vacation to relieve their wives of the kitchen. This was not a good experience. On our Norwegian cruise the menus were superb. For lunch & dinner, each day they had a unique menu. One day Mexican, one day Indian, one day Barbeque, one day Caribbean, one day Italian. The chefs walked around proudly displaying their hats & level of rank. On a Caribbean cruise there should be a Caribbean flavored menu at least one day. At the Port of calls there were no Caribbean cuisine available. I lost my time at the beach in Turks Island to experience a Jerk chicken meal miles away from the designated beach. Fortunately the shuttle driver waited for me. The tour guides were all very friendly on both Islands. Service overall was good. The band & singers on the 3rd level were very good. The comedian was awful. Had no good jokes other than picking on folks in the audience. He picked on Indians and their cuisine. Some walked out. Talked about how their spicy foods made it hard to fart comfortably. If I had to pick the best thing on the cruise, it would be the very comfortable bed, especially the pillows.Embarkation
