It was okay....I’ve been on other Carnival cruises in which the food, service and ship was better quality. I feel like the level of service on the ship was not where it should be especially for someone who has cruised before.
Carnival should care about their staff and customers as much as they care about not having plastic straws on the ship. Second hand smoke is real!!

The food was really great; however, not as good as past cruises on Carnival. We felt the food quality dropped the closer to the end of the cruise it got. Meats were tougher, choices were very limited unless you wanted to pay extra.
Onboard Activities

Pool was good. Disappointed with the hot tub....I was under the impression that children were not allowed in the hot tub. My husband and I never could use them because there were always MANY children in them and they were using them like a pool....jumping, slashing, etc. At one point I counted 9 children in the hot tub.
Entertainment

DJs, bands were great!! Especially the latin duo playing near the casino bar. The band in the Red Frog Pub was awesome as well.

I think the service was just okay compared to other Carnival Cruises I’ve been on. It started with my room not being cleaned. When the room steward knocked on the door and said I should not be in the room yet, I showed him my key. He asked if I was FTTF group and when I showed him my key again, he left to “check”. The couple I traveled with had the same issue of not having their room cleaned.
The rooms were not cleaned daily...yes, I did choose turndown service only; however, there was trash and empty tissue box in my bathroom for the last 3 days of my cruise.
Ship Quality

Although the ship had gone through a refurbishment, I found the ship to be obviously old and out dated. One of the couches in the area near the casino bar lost its arm as if was sitting watching the band and if it weren’t for my husband catching me, I would have fallen on the floor.
Cabin / Stateroom

Room was okay...not ready/cleaned when we arrived...not cleaned thoroughly throughout the week. Requested robes the first day and didn’t get them until the evening of our second day.
Ship tip
I would like to point out that Carnival has taken steps to protect the environment but doesn’t take a stand on second hand smoke. People were just hanging out in the casino NOT GAMBLING just so the could drink and smoke. Carnival should consider non smoking cruises or at least install heavy air purifiers. I too like to gamble and have donated my fair share of money to the slot machines but found I would come out with a headache and wheezing. There is a reason I quit smoking years ago. I ended up with bronchitis when I retuned home and firmly believe it was partially because of the smoke.
Aft pool and hotubs on deck 9 are adults only. Hot tubs on serenity deck are adults only. 4 out six hot tubs are adults only, might want to walk around the entire ship next time.
Smoking is legal and only allowed in a few places on any ship. Personally I find loud obnoxious drunken behaviour offensive but would expect booze free cruises, would you ?
The Freedom definitely needs extra training for their staff. The casino is one of the very few indoor places people are allowed to smoke. I think carnival does a nice job of outcasting smokers! They have like.. 3 places on board to smoke that I saw? You could just go to the other 100000000000 places they aren’t allowed to smoke. 🙂 those people paid for the same cruise as you after all.
