Thanks to FTTF we had a quick, smooth embarkation. Kudos to the Port Staff for being so helpful and patient!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
This was our first time on a Carnival ship and we were a little disappointed by the quality of food on Lido. Not much variety and honestly, not very appetizing. The dessert bar was good, nice variety every day. Thankfully Guy's Burgers kept our belly's full. Blue Iguana did not live up to the hype and we never made it to the BBQ place. MDR - preferred the appetizers over the main dishes. Loved the melting cake the first 2 days, then it was more cakey, hardly any lava (overcooked?) The Dr Suess breakfast was very good! Pizza Pirate was good when we got individual slices, when we had a whole pizza delivered to our room it was undercooked and the dough was almost slimy in the middle.....we were just a tad disappointed because we had heard so much hype about Carnival Food.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Great ship! Lots to do, we didn't try the water slide due to being severely sunburnt on day 2, but that was our own fault LOL We were impressed with all the fun "inside" activities. We went to triva, arts & crafts, towel folding, dance lessons, games and more! I would definitely go on the Freedom again! TJ and Fun Squad deserve top marks!! We loved Franquios and Adrian

Entertainment

TJ was an AMAZING CD!!! He had such great energy the whole trip and his fun squad was just as awesome! They had a great presence on the ship and always took the time to say hi! DJ was great! All of the individual performers were very good. We often stopped to listen if they were performing as we went by. Four stars since the Main Shows were all just musical sets. Not an interest of ours, not Carnival's fault, just personal preference. And thankfully there were plenty of other options in place of the main shows. Poolside movie choices were great!! Comedians were SO funny during the PG shows, we didn't go to the late shows.

Children's Programs

No children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We didn't meet a staff member that wasn't smiling, polite and helpful. Freedom has a great ship full of hard, lovely workers! Everyone was friendly and acted happy to have us there! We loved Ethel and her team in the Chic Dining Room! I'm pretty sure we had the best room steward on the ship, cabin 9205, i feel bad for not remembering how to spell his name, but he was the BEST! He met with us the first day in the cabin and showed us how everything worked and asked what was cleaning schedule and always had fresh ice ready in our room! We loved the towel friends he left us each day!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was clean and smelled good the entire trip. Again, due to the stellar staff! You could see where some accidents/leaks had happened but they were always on top of it and usually a couple hours later you'd never know anything happened. 4 stars only because of the placement of the Casino to the Fun Shops. As a non-smoker with bad allergies I firmly believe the casino should be stuck on one end of the ship away from everything. We tried to enjoy going to Cherry on Top but it stunk so bad since it was right next to the Casino entrance. We didn't enjoy having to walk by the casino to get to the Coffee bar and comedy shows. It just smelled so nasty. Once you got past the coffee bar there were some lovely sitting areas by big windows to watch the water.

Cabin / Stateroom

Overall the cabin was spacious and comfortable, lots of storage. We appreciated the complimentary movie channels on tv also. 3 stars because when I booked the Suite in Sep 2018, I booked a Jr Suite for the sole purpose of getting a bathtub. This was an important factor for me. When we arrived to the room, I was extremely surprised to find us in a handicapped suite with a large shower and a pull-down chair.......I suppose they changed the room during drydock, but we were never notified of the changes. I knew the ship was fully booked so I didn't even mention it. Like I said the room itself was huge and comfy.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Great port, seems chaotic on the outside, but there are plenty of staff members happy to point you in the right direction.

Cozumel, Mexico

We LOVE Cozumel, great port and we always hit up Mr Sancho's beach resort.

Belize City, Belize

Ehhhh. Just ehhh. Have to tender, not a lot of shopping at the port. Weren't interested in any excursions.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

4 out of 5
Loved Roatan!! Great, clean port, good shopping area. Went to DJ's Sloth and Monkey Hangout, was a shorter tour than expected, but an AMAZING experience. Totally worth going! Then we were taken to a beautiful private beach resort. Loved it, used Discover Roatan for the excursion. 4 stars only because you have to walk sssssooooooo far to get to private excurision area.

Disembarkation

Easy peasy, definitely worth waiting for a porter once you get off the ship!

It only takes one cruise to be hooked! So glad she liked it.

Ugggg I 100% agree on the casino. We have had to walk through it to get to some of our concerts and you have to walk as you fast can coughing the whole time. Definetly all ships should have it all by its lonesome self with 1 entrance in- not where you have to walk through it to get to other places- they don't seem to think it through when they build the casino.

LOL go Janae!!! Sorry you thought the food wasn't as good- I'm the opposite- like it better- like that they have frog legs lol where RC waiter looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked if they ever have them. Love love love guys burgers and blueiguana- wish we had those choices for dinner- I could skip the dining room on all cruises- if they did. I don't do the buffet anymore but my husband does. And I love that doing LCHF is easy while on a cruise. I think you guys would love a Apostolic/Pentecostal cruise- you should go on one sometime! Happy Cruising
