Review summary

My wife and I took this cruise for my 70th birthday. The food was awful in the buffet! The real problem was the fact that we were placed in a cabin right above a dance club and the DJ played the music so loud our room vibrated from the sound! I complained and was told nothing could be done! Apparently the 10 to 15 people who went to the club every night were more important than the two hundred people who filed a complaint! The noise started at 10:00 PM and went on until 3:00 AM or 4:00 AM every night! I will never book another cruise on Carnival!

Right on top of the 70's Dance Club! Extreme noise and vibration from the music played by the DJ who was a complete Jerk!

Ship tip

Hey quit picking on 70 year olds. LOL. Some of my best buddies are 70+ and we still party our a$$ off...skiing, dancing etc. Always check out the deck plan and see what is going on above and below the cabin you want. we once had a "travel agent" give us (in her opinion) a wonderful cabin. we were right below the Lido deck pool and every morning we were woken up to the beach chairs being dragged across the deck area. Not a great way to wake up from a late night. From then on we did our own cabin choice.

Bring earplugs. Great for noisy neighbors, rowdy people in the hall and noise above or below. Also good if your cabin mate snores!

We only cruise on Carnival.
We will be on the Freedom at the back of the ship on deck 2......just above the engine room.....I won't be on here complaining about that, because I CHOSE that room, this was a last minute vacation, and I don't plan on spending my vacation in the room that much.
We are on the Glory in January of 2017, but on a balcony midship deck 7 (THE PERFECT ROOMS) because I booked that early.

I was on the Freedom last October and loved it! I wasn't that crazy about some of the food in the Lido but I definitely ate other food that U liked at the Lido.

rmartin77777... I'm sorry you had a terrible time. I do suggest you select your cabin next time and check the deck plans when u do so. Dont get nothing below or above the club, casino, gym or pools. I think those rooms should b reserved for the hearinhg impaired to help prevent that problem. Also, the food. I know ours was good, Idk what u mean by terrible but not everyone has the same taste in food. I do suggest you try Carnival again now that you know what to check for and b leary of! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And to those being ugly towards him. Have some respect, #1 unless your 71 then he is your elder, he has done nothing to personally hurt or insult you so there is no reason in the hurtful comments. #2 of that was your grandpaw you would be ticked if someone spoke to them that way.

it OK but more laid back

@ terry115, thanks. EverytIme my ship is docked next to that, people walking around like zombies. I'll never do that line. Holland American is appropriate for the elderly and boring people. S ruff as life is, I like to have fun and met excited people.

lol. I was thinkin Queen Mary sounds appropriate

Holland American

They need to cruise that black/white colored cruise line. I forgot the name, but my elderly friend doe that line. I convinced my Pastor to try Carnival, she had a great time. Only thing she needs a scooter, walking was too much.

lmao @ "more than 200 that filed a complaint" im having a hard time picturing this. 70th birthday.....shoot, id be in the nightclub dancing til I turned 71 woit woot

Pineapplet53    8 years ago

@ born2cruise, 😂😂😂😂😂

definitely, always reasearch where your cabin will be located AND research the activities available to each specific cruise line. Carnival is not for everyone. maybe try a cruise line with a little slower pace. I mean, what on earth would posess a DJ of a nightclub to play loud thumping music into the wee hours of the night. what were they thinking??!

Pineapplet53    8 years ago

I always check the deck plan to see what's above and below. Learn from getting a rm close to kids camp. That will happen again on any cruise line if u don't research your cabin before u select the cabin.

Back 70 years ago they didn't have cruise ships be thankful for cruise ships. Be thankful you are healthy an able to go on a cruise. Just be thankful

Do your research before you select a cabin & / or if you went the cheaper route and let Carnival pick your cabin that is huge gamble to play when it comes to a weeks vacation. p

Sorry you did not have a good first cruise.   Cruising is a learning curve just like anything in life.

A cruise ship cabin is like real estate LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.  Having a cabin above or below a club, bar, kitchen, crew passage way or pool deck can disturb your sleep on any cruise line.

If you book another cruise I would suggest that when you book your cabin you have a copy of the deck plans of the ship open on your computer so you can look to see what is above, below and next to you.  You do not want to be next to stair case or elevator.   If you want a smoother ride mid ship does not get the rocking of a forward cabin.

I would be upset with the travel agent that booked you in that cabin,  not the cruise line.   The TA should have put you in a better location.  If you cruise again I would suggest a good TA and trying Celebrity, HAL or Princes cruise lines.
