Review summary
The ship itself was very old and outdated. One of the glass elevators did not work the entire trip nor was it being worked on. My vacation was supposed to be to celebrate my three year anniversary and it was a complete disaster. The room was not accommodated for such. When we arrived there were 2 separate beds on opposite sides of the room. I understand that the beds could be pushed together to form one bed but I do not feel that was something we should have had to do considering it was noted that this was to celebrate our anniversary. When asked to upgrade to a better room and offering to pay the difference I was told that the cruise was completely booked and there was nothing to be done. The customer service provided for this was extremely rude and did not offer any type of solution and seemed to be irritated with us because we were unhappy. My friends that were sailing with us were dissatisfied with their room as well and went to the same receptionist and they were upgraded, but only moments before I was told that there were no upgrades available. During dinner we were always the first ones there and the last ones to leave but this was not by choice. The server that waited on us was distant and rude. He became irritated with me when I had to ask another server for a straw because he had taken fifteen minutes to bring me one. From that point on we were neglected, dinner was cold, never got refills on drinks, and was hardly offered dessert. I saw on some peoples doors that were celebrating birthdays and anniversaries and such had decorations on the doors. I ordered decorations and a cake from the fun shop and the decorations were never delivered or displayed and the cake came on the last day. Nothing came when it was supposed to and the decorations never came at all. There weren’t as many activities for everyone like there were on the last cruise. There are not enough hot tubs on this particular ship. the two main whirlpools were filled with about ten to fifteen children and teenagers at a time and the adult serenity whirlpools were always full as well even more so than the main whirlpools. There was one point where I and my friend were sitting in the whirlpool when two children jumped in and slashed water all in my face and in my friends drink that she was holding. When I told the server standing by watching it all he said there was nothing he could do. He did not even offer to get her a new drink. The final point for me was the last day of our cruising. We gathered all of our pictures that were taken over the cruise and wanted to look through them to select the ones that we wanted to purchase. This was always my favorite part of the cruise because I absolutely love taking pictures. There was this very sweet and polite lady that had taken some really nice pictures the evening before who told us that we could sit in the windowsill nearby to go through our pictures. As we were narrowing down our pictures the photo manager "Rowland" was his name approached me and hovered over me and accused me of taking pictures on my cell phone of the photographs. My cell phone was in my lap faced down with the cover flipped over it. I told him I didn’t take a picture of anything. He then told me that if I want to purchase pictures I needed to do so at the counter and I was not allowed to be sitting where I was and looking through them as such. I let him know that the young lady told me that it was ok he refused to listen and said if I didn’t take the picture to the register he would have to throw them away. I am at the point of tears at this point because I really wanted to buy several of my photographs. I went to the register and only purchased one photo. My friend also purchased a few of her photos and then we left. As we were leaving the security alarm went off so we both stopped to present our sealed envelopes and receipts to the lady standing nearby. The manager “Rowland” then runs full speed and approaches us screaming that he was going to call security on us for stealing pictures and not deleting pictures from my phone. I told him I did not steal anything or take any pictures on my phone and to stop accusing me. He continued to scream at us yelling he’s calling security. I went to the customer service desk and the same lady that was rude to me before was the only one there. I asked her to speak to the manager of the photo manager and she said he was the manager. I told her that I did indeed understand that he was the manager but I wanted to speak to his superior the person that is above him. She continued to say he was the only person I could speak to so I told her I wanted to speak to her manager then since she was not being polite or helpful. She told me to hold on one minute and went in the back to do something. She came back about five minutes later and said she called the photo manager “Rowland” and he said that he is the head of that department and there is nothing I can do or say to anybody else to fix the problem. At this point I and utterly disgusted and wanted the ship to get back to the port as soon as possible because I was over this cruise. Another lady came and said that if I wanted we could file a report to carnival so we did just that. On our way to dinner that evening we passed through the photo gallery where we saw a white couple sitting in the exact same windowsill that I was in earlier and told I was not allowed to be there, both of their phones were out, and “Rowland was helping them to go through their pictures. I felt racially profiled and totally disrespected. The next morning as we were gather the last of our things we had until nine A.M. to eat breakfast in the main dining room. We arrived at the entrance of the dining room around 8:40 and were told that breakfast was over at 8:30. I took the paper out of my bag that showed the times for dining on the last day and showed it to the lady and she said there was some misunderstanding because they were closed. I begin crying and broke down because just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, it did. My friends told the lady that she had to honor what the paper said and eventually after quite a bit of back and forth bickering between them she finally gave in and sat us. Only moments after we were sat three white couples walked in and were sat with no problems or complications. Around 9:05 another white couple walked in and was sat. I was flabbergasted at the fact that we were there long before the designated closing time and had problems yet this couple walks right in after the time and had no problems. This trip for me is by far the absolute worse I have ever been on and I have been on quite a few cruises. I really hope carnival will investigate the situation and the crew aboard this particular ship. The last Carnival cruise we went on last year for our second anniversary was so memorable. We knew the cruise director by name and she even sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room to help us celebrate.
