Review summary

I would ride the Fantasy again. You feel more of the waves which I didn't like but overall we liked this ship better than our previous ship even with less to do.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Our embarkation was easy. We got the FTTF package and did the earliest check-in time and we were through the line in 5 minutes and as soon as they boarded we were on board and in our room right away.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was average most of the time. Some items were really good but others were not. Our daughter has to be gluten free so we were concerned about that going in but I will say that they have a ton of options for gluten free if you do your meals in the dining rooms. They will also make gluten free pizzas at the pizza station. Our daughter loved it.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The Fantasy lacks some of the onboard amenities that other ships have because of size but we still had fun with the main atrium parties, trivia contests, watching shows, using the pool and hot tubs and the adult scavenger hunt. The CD Mikey was absolutely awesome and any activity he was part of was worth going to. We heard a lot about him going in and he lived up to the praise!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Performances were OK. Some of the people singing around the ship were not that good. The stage show performers did a good job but the shows sometimes had to be scaled back to just sing Inc because the seas were extremely rough and props were sliding across the stage.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Our kids loved Camp Ocean and were not wanting to leave. They had a lot of activities for the kids and we did not feel bad at all leaving them when they were asking to go.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was very friendly and our dinner servers were fantastic. We were amazed that after seeing us once they knew our names even outside of dinner. Same with the cleaning staff.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Cleanliness was pretty good. It is an older ship so there is some general wear that is sometimes visible but the staff did a good job keeping on top of everything. Design wasn't bad but some rooms were a little confusing to get to.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We had a basic inside cabin. It was fine for the little tinker spent in there. We had 5 of us in there so it was going to feel right no matter what. The bathroom smelled like pee though.

Ship tip

It will be as fun as you make it. The more you interact and get involved the more fun you will likely have. Don't be someone who just watches and doesn't want to try anything.

Ports of call

Mobile, Alabama

4 out of 5
We just did embarkation. If you take a shuttle to the port it is easier.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico Did not visit port

We had an emergency medical issue causing a return to Mobile which made us miss this port.

Cozumel, Mexico

We didn't do an excursion. We were going to go to a beach instead. Do your research ahead of time and don't do what we did which was ask the people at the port and the cab drivers. They made a suggestion to go to Ocean VIP which turned out to be lousy. Apparently they get kickbacks for suggesting it is what we found out later. The only nice thing was that we got an extended overnight stay because of our rescheduling and that let us shop at night when the market was empty.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had the FTTF and will do it again after this. We got to get off first, and it took us less than 10 minutes to get off the boat and get through customs. So easy and quick.
