This was my third cruise 01, 08 and 17. I had a great time but I feel that it is less of a luxury experience than it was in 01 and in 08. I know if I plan on going on another cruise I will look for a bigger ship than the Fun Ship by carnival or a different cruise line. One of the individuals I was traveling with summed it up perfectly. "This is a great starter cruise". I completely agree with this, if you have never cruised before you will have a great time, but if you have been on other cruises or spent time at all-inclusives resorts you might not be as satisfied.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Overall the experience was good, for some reason the ship was late leaving port.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The fruity alcohol drinks were not strong at all. The food options in the dining room were ok, I think they were better in previous cruises. The breakfast omelette station was great. The specialty restaurants were not impressive at all. I was disappointed with the salad bar lack of options.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Overall the activities were good, I was disappointed that the ship only had one pool. I thought that they would have a pool in the adult area.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The comedy shows were great, truly enjoyed them.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
I had amazing service from waiters, room stewards. The only negative experience came from guest services the night before we arrived back to port. I had waited in line for over half hour only to be next in line and was then told to wait longer because the guest service representive had a guest from the VIP line come over to the regular line to wait on them. I found that very disrespectful, the line for VIP guest only had two people in line and the regular line was very long.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Overall the staff did a good job of keeping the ship clean, I was disappointed in how the other travelers would just leave dirty dishes and trash laying around on the stairways and by the elevators.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin was clean and our room steward did an amazing job keeping it that way. The room was very small for 4 people to share. The only complaint on the room is the fact they it only had one plug in for both the bathroom and cabin.
Ship tip
Bring extension cords for your room. Also some type of shower caddy to keep personal items in. The cabin is small and with the wall beds folded down for use you have very little room to have suitcases open .
We did the Segway tour, it was a lot of fun. The beach had a lot of seaweed the day I was there. I would suggest having water shoes for this beach, going in to the ocean you have a lot of rocks and seashells to maneuver around. Some of the merchants would not leave you alone, and kept trying to sale you stuff. The drinks were about the same price as on the ship.
We had to wait for e everyone that had the expedited disembarkation or chose to carry their luggage out instead of having it checked. I believe the people that chose that option did not save much time as the lines looked a lot longer than mine.
I will be going on my 28th cruise next month all on Carnival but one which was Royal Caribbean and they have all been great. There have been some changes but still the best vacation
As stated above Carnival is a great starter cruise. The rules are more relaxed than other ships. Things like dress codes and such. Last thing I want to do on my cruise is to be forced to wear a dress shirt and tie to dinner... At least for now.
Carnival is a great fun line for families and folks that like to party. Nothing wrong with that. If you want something different, enjoy the experience and the joys of other cruise lines.
