Review summary

We looked forward to this cruise for 6 months, but found things off to a rough start upon arrival at the Jacksonville Port-- which was *completely closed* during our assigned check-in time.  When they finally reopened an hour and a half prior to debarkation, everything was very rushed, porters were rude, and the porter we ultimately used for luggage made inappropriate comments in front of my small children.

Once on the ship, there were endless lines to stand in. Lines for food, lines for service, lines for children's activities.... you think you go on vacation to get away from frustration, only to find yourself stressed when your kids can't get into "kids club" within a 15 minute timeframe-- with only two families left ahead of you??

We completely missed the Carnival-provided lunch on Half Moon Cay, due to misdirected signage on the island (which we later pointed out to Carnival employees).  The lunch area is off in the trees, and signs direct you back towards the beach, AWAY from your only food/ restaurant option between breakfast and 6 p.m. Also, no one informed us that vendors on the island only accept cash, and conveniently enough, the Carnival-branded gift shop on Half Moon was inexplicably closed for the day?

We also had a dietary issue on board the ship (family member with celiac disease), which was brought to guest services, who assured me the maitre d' and head waiter would meet me at the main restaurant, to address and remedy promptly. This never happened. I followed up with guest services, who again made the same promises, yet 6 days passed, and NO ONE onboard the ship ever met with us or followed up on guest service's promises. Ultimately, in spite of our cruise price including meals, one of our traveling parties literally ate Caesar salads and frozen yogurt all 6 cruising days.

This trip would have been wonderful, and the locales visited were absolutely jaw-droopingly beautiful. Unfortunately, experiences onboard the ship were subpar, frustrating, and inconvenient, and efforts towards making those stressors right never even materialized. Was highly disappointed with my first experience onboard Carnival.

Bagus, our room steward, was amazingly courteous, attentive, and kind, and was likely a high point of the personalities associated with Carnival whom we met. The cabin was surprisingly roomy, with plenty of storage space-- but VERY LOUD in the evenings, with walls that thumped from bass and club music until midnight nightly.

Ship tip

Carnival shuttle = $22/ person Call an Uber/ Lyft from the airport.... When you return, debark to the arriving passenger drop-offs-- Carnival charges your car/ taxi $10 just to access the debarkation lot.

The cruises out of Jacksonville are 4 and 5 day cruises = not 6 days.

So sorry, I have been on several cruises and had great experiences, not to say that this next one won't be bad. I feel all vacations can't be perfect even though we expect perfection.

Unfortunately most of what you are having issues with are of your own making. Half Moon isn't that big, shame on you if you can't ask someone where to go to get lunch and as a result COMPLETELY MISSED IT. If you were hunger enough then you find food. Not really sure that it's Carnival's personal responsibility to notify you that the vendors only take cash. Although the pretty talk in the main lounge actually does mention to take cash if you take the time to attend this talk. The dietary issues are unfortunate but if you seriously sat there and ate Cesaer salad for 7 days and didn't take the initiative to stop at the maitre d' yourself when you had to walk right by the gentleman every meal then you certainly have to accept a large portion of that unfortunate situation on yourself. Besides that unless this person was diagnosed with this condition just prior to sailing then isn't it also on you to research what to do for this dietary restriction. if you notify them ahead of time then they are prepared for your restrictions. As for the kids club issues... don't you just hate rules. They should only apply to those who are willing to follow them. Sorry but this is another case of sometimes things are what you make of them and if you want something to complain about you can certainly find enough of them to keep you wound up.
