Review summary

This was our 9th cruise (1 on Celebrity, 7 on Princess and our first on Carnival).  The staff was great.  The ship (Elation) was tired an in need of refurbish.  The entertainment was typical of all cruise lines. From the three cruise lines we've used, I find that the entertainment is always mediocre and the staff always great and hardworking.  Cruise choice usually comes down to price, destination, time since the last ship refit and food.  I find Princess has the best food so we'll likely go back to them.  We took this one due to sailing schedule and departure port.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

The dining service was great. The food quality was poor even when I paid extra for what I thought would be better quality.

Ayu was a great cabin steward. Our cabin seemed old so obviously nothing she could do about that but the cabin seemed much larger compared to Princess with tons of storage and a much bigger bathroom. The cabin design was one of the best of any ship I've been on.

This ship was never refurbished and we have access to a very reliable source on Carnival. It is up for sale though.

While I rated this ship a three-star on one point. Yet, awarded the fourth star from dinner at Chef's Table. The lack of upscale dining choices is surprising. The menu is developed by the Executive Chef for 15 people. It is fantastic, flawlessly presented and they thrown in your favorite wine, champagne or scotch. This meal started the preparation is at the end of boarding night.

What did they update in 2014? The crew area?

The Celebration was not a sister ship to the Fantasy class Elation. The Celebration and Holiday were their own class and were Carnivals oldest and smallest ships until both were sold. The Elation and her Fantasy class sisters are now the smallest and oldest of the fleet.

The ship was refurbished in 2014 to what you now see onboard. But, Carnival has the Elation up for sale anyway. They sold their last ship, Carnival Celebration, Elations sister ship, to Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line which is still sailing out of Port of Palm Beach and is in talks with them about this ship as well. However, the line that buys the Elation has to wait until 2018 to take delivery. I doubt Carnival will be putting any more money into a ship they do not intend on keeping.
