Review summary

Well, if you are concerned you might gain too much weight, then this is the cruise for you! The food was terrible. Even the dining room food was tasteless and buffet even worse. We had two cabins, one of them a penthouse. This room was totally uninhabitable the last night due to a sewer gas smell that permeated the stateroom until 3:30 in the morning when it became somewhat tolerable. This was our 6th cruise and first and last on Carnival. Anyone who says this cruise was good simply does not know any better. Very dissappointing.

We were told to stay away from the water taxis for safety reasons but I did not see a problem here. There were many people offering the same shore excursions as the cruise line for half the price once you got to port. Our party of 6 went different ways but the guide we hired made sure everyone got back to the ship in plenty of time. Carnival puts the fear that you will be left behind and the ship will sail without you if you do not buy their tours.

Everyone says to go see the "La Bufadora" blow hole. Skip it. A 45 minute drive and then a 15 minute walk through the local flea market where people try to sell you stuff, much of it made in China. You can get the same stuff in town.

Pros: The staff was friendly and worked hard

Cons: Just about everything else, especially the food.

Recommends Carnival Elation? No.
