Carnival Elation

5 Night Baja Mexico (San Diego Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 23, 2008

Ship: Carnival Elation

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Yes, I recommend the ship, especially the quality of serivice it contained. The ship was nice and big, there were many places on the top decks to lay out and enjoy the ocean view. In addition, the interior was beautiful and there was always something to do, look at or just relax in. Nevertheless, the pools were not big enough to enjoy, so we never swam in them, but we did use the jacuzzis.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Dining was wonderful, but the buffet food needs a bit more of variety.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Although there was plenty of activities and entertainment throughout the ship and through out the vacation, they just did not seem to fit with what we expected or wanted. But, I must take into consideration it was definitely a family-oriented cruise and most of the activities and entertainment revolved around the families on board.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was by far the best staff that I have ever encountered. They were always to kind and ready to help us with anything and everything. I never heard "no."

Cabin / Stateroom

No complaints here, especially since my husband and I only used the room to sleep, shower, and change in. Additionally, the room was always nice and clean when we returned to it.

Ports of call

Ensenada, Mexico

We went to the La Bufadora (the blow hole). It took over an hour just to get there and the view was not a pretty one I must admit. Once we got to the blow hole we spent less then 5 minutes looking at it because the view is not that great and honestly there is only so much to get excited over. The rest of the trip (which was only 2 hours) was okay because we found 2 nice resturants with ocean views and we drank coronas and had tequilla shots. Then we had to drive an hour back to our ship. If I could do it all over again I would have went just to downtown Ensanada, realized there was nothing to do and spent the rest of the time on the ship, laying out, or doing an activity.
Don't Miss: I recommend nothing!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
Oh my, Cabo was amazing, and it was definitely the peak of our trip. My husband and I fortunately woke up at the crack of dawn just in time to watch while our ship approached Cabo. It was an amazing experience and overwhelmingly beautiful. We did not sign up for any excursions, thankfully, because we learned from the Ensenada trip that tours are just a waste of time and money. So we took off on our own and did not let anyone talk us into anythig. We walked the marina all the way to the otherside pass the lighthouse toward the resorts. From the marina We walked the beach to the resorts unitl we found a perfect resturant on the beach called "La Oficina" and we got front row seats to view the ocean and all the activities on it. We drank corona's listened to live music and watched silly college students and older people particpate in some ronchy drinking games at the resturants on both the right and left of us. I eventually decided to take a ride on the babana boat, which was a blast.
Don't Miss: Resort beaches!!!

Pros: The Service was excellent.

Cons: The entertainment (i.e. shows) could use some improvement.
