Review summary

This was our honeymoon cruise and both of our first experience as well. We were expecting to have lots of fun and excitement, unfortunately the Carnival Ecstasy has left a bad taste in our mouths. We do not plan on traveling on this ship in the future, and were told that the other ships offer more entertainment and spacious cabins.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Drinks- The lemonade tasted like carbornated water and tea was not sweetened. The drinks were this way for each day that we were on the ship. Food- We tried ordering from the deli, but not only were they understaff (one person working) but they had hot dogs with no buns, the sandwiches were missing the sauces to be added. We complained but no one listened. As far as the desert bar goes, the cake was very dry and cookies were hard. The main buffet served under cook roast beef along with the fried chicken being fried too hard and dry. The best food was Guy's burger and the pizza area.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
No, we did not find alot of activities that interested us. We tried going to the trivia areas, but not many people showed up. So we stayed inside of the cabin most of the trip.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The DJ was very good on day 1 on the deck, but after that we did not see where he was entertaining so we could enjoy.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff were good! Whenever we needed anything Mr Davis and the others came to our cabin right away.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The layout was somewhat confusing as to where to go. We went from floor to floor at times trying to remember how to get back to our cabin.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The cabin is very small for 2 people and not alot room to move around. The king size bed sinks in the middle which makes a for an uncomfortable rest.

Ship tip

I would suggest to try a bigger cruise ship in order to participate in more activities.

Ports of call

Jacksonville, Florida

Disembarkation

My wife & our entire family well most of her family came from San Diego California to join us on our first cruise ever!! First I wanted to say how sorry I am that you didn’t enjoy your first cruise especially on your honeymoon. As for my wife & I we had a amazing time on this cruise ship, the entertainment was great, we also went too the comedy shows which were hilarious. We didn’t do any excursions because most of the family wanted to hang out together which made our cruise more fun. We are going on our next cruise in January for another 5 days this time with friends. Again I’m so very sorry you wasn’t able to truly enjoy your first cruise, but congratulations on your marriage.

Out of 5 ships and 6 cruises the Ecstasy was our least favorite. Our room was outdated and food wasnt great. If this was your first cruise then yes there probably wasnt any wow factor. You always learn from the first one and will be able to get around better on the next. Entertainment can be found so try different things. Trivia turnout can be hit or miss. The lines for pizza and deli are always long and can be slow mo matter which ship. If you live near Jacksonvilles i suggest maybe going to Charleston on the sunshine its bigger the room was more updated and bigger and the food 10x better.

Really sorry you had a bad 1st experience. I tell anyone who asks to do lots of research and check out the reviews on the ship you are going on. Also when you read it look at the time of year that you will be going and pay attention to their reviews. We have been on 2 in November and one in June. Of course lots more children and families on the June one. Love the November sailings. Still warm enough in the Caribbean. 🚢⚓👀

Sorry you didn’t enjoy your first cruise. Most people love it, but it’s not for everyone. As far as cabin sizes, the standard cabins on the Ecstasy are about 185 sq ft, which is 20 - 50 sq ft larger than standard cabins on most ships. If you want something larger on a future cruise, you will probably have to move up to a suite of some type.
