Embarkation

5 out of 5
Come a little later in the day. We showed up at 12:30. We drove straight into the parking lot, whisked through baggage check, still made it to a space in the garage. There was virtually no wait at security and the line for check-in was very reasonable.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The MDR food not as good as it has been in the past. For example, lobster on formal nights is a thing of the past. However, the MDR food is still better than most land-based restaurants and the staff will stop at nothing to please.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Single pool, but always active. We always managed to find chairs when we wanted to chill by the pool. Ecstasy also has a slide area, but lacks other topside infrastructure. There was not room for the standard belly flop contest, but the synchronized swimming contest was really funny. Other staff supported events were pretty standard.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Stage shows are good, but they do not change on individual ships. Since we have been on Carnival Ecstasy before, we did not do the shows again but listened to some of the live entertainment and the comedians.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I have seldom had a complaint about the service or staff on any cruise.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Carnival Ecstasy is older, but well maintained. If you want a smaller ship experience, Ecstasy is a good option.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
This was a porthole cabin. It was worth the upgrade for natural light. A bonus is the extra shelf space in front of the portholes. Floor space and closet space is good. The downside on an older ship is sitting space. There is only a single chair and a vanity stool in the room.

Ports of call

Charleston, South Carolina

5 out of 5
There is a wealth of things to do in Charleston

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
A tender port. Nice beach, but a little rocky, so make sure you have water shoes. The coral reefs are beautiful. The south beach area was less crowded than the north beach area.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

1 out of 5
Freeport is just not much one of the better ports in the Bahamas or Caribbean.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We self-disembarked. We were on the road home at a little past 8 AM.
