Review summary

Our trip on Carnival Ecstasy was a good, quick, last minute get-away to start off summer.  The ship is really nothing special.  Very small pool (our pool in our Florida backyard is about as big).  Our son did enjoy the mini golf and the fitness center/spa is quiet nice.  Dining in dining rooms is well done-well staffed, quite good food, good selections of offerings; buffets not so much- long lines for mediocre buffet food.

Oceanview cabin is fine especially if you don't plan to spend much time in cabin.  Nothing fancy- although nice fluffy bedding & comfortable beds made for good sleep.

Dissappointment was the Circle C kids club and activities for kids.  We chose Carnival for its reputation for being more fun for kids.  The kids club was basically a room with a Wii.  Not enough there or activities organised and advertised to attract enough other kids to make it fun and worthwhile to return.

Entertainment- At least there were some family-friendly activities that we could do together.  We enjoyed the Hasbro Game Night and both family friendly and adult comedy shows, but otherwise not enough on the ship to get me to cruise on that ship again (even for a short get-away).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Good. Dining staff very friendly, accomodating. Food in seated dining room quiet good. I like being able to choose several starters instead of larger main course. Buffet food- long lines for mediocre food.

Onboard Activities

Liked having mini golf & ping pong- basketball, etc would havebeen nice). If you're not into spending $ on bingo and on-board shopping, etc. not so many great options. Did enjoy the Comedy club!

Children's Programs

Circle C- was little more than a a mirored room with a Wii and a few computers (of course no wifi). Very little to attract our only child, who was looking for others his age to hang out with to go back.

Good.

Ship Quality

Just OK. Nothing special. Only one, tiny pool for 2000+ peopleis not sufficient. At least there were plenty of deck chairs.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Small but ok. King sized bed and pulldown extra bed. Absolutely nothing fancy but fine for family of 3. Would not have been ok for family of 4. Batthroom shower not draining the first day. Was fixed but bathroom did not smell great the whole trip.

Ship tip

Choose the anytime dining. Offers nice, enjoyable dining experience at quite flexible hours. It's a much more pleasant experience than buffet. With lines for buffet- the sit-down dining really doesn't take that much more time.

Good- we enjoyed bike tour. But 5 hours in Key West is really not enough time to do much more than either a quick excursion like bike tour or just walk around- can't do both. Ridiculously long line/wait for trolley to get back to ship
