We both got COVID on this cruise! We sailed twice during the pandemic on Norwegian and never got sick. I will never sail Carnival again. Our birthday celebration was ruined because Carnival did not properly maintain or clean the ship.
Embarkation

They eliminated the queue in the Great Hall. They process you in the lobby as you walk in, but don’t tell you how to get your room key. We stood in Guest Services line for information. Turned out we didn’t have to. There were no clear instructions how to proceed. Finally a team member said our key would be in an envelope outside our stateroom.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining

Food was so so. Bartenders were fine. You had to go to the bar yourself to get a drink as wait staff was reduced.
Onboard Activities

Pool looked murky, didn’t dare to go in!
Entertainment
2 out of 5
We enjoyed the violin players. But it was the same songs and performers every day in a row. Played Bingo and Deal or No Deal. Didn’t see the comedy show. There were no other shows to my knowledge.
Children's Programs
No kids!
Service and Staff

Hated having to book tables on the App. Even after making a reservation, we had to wait.
Ship Quality

Half the soap dispensers were empty. Overall Decor is dark. Wallpaper peeling off the wall in our stateroom (8309). Elevators all banged up. Lido deck floors dirty.
Cabin / Stateroom

Found a live roach crawling across the desk the first night. Captured it under glass to show the steward. Wallpaper peeling off the wall. We could not use the balcony because of the smell emanating from the holding tank. The smell permeated the 8th floor starboard hallway as well. You could also smell it at the bar on the 5th floor.
Ship tip
Choose another ship. The Conquest should be scuttled!
I was on the same cruise as you and had a completely different experience. While the ship is definitely older and in need of a reno, it did not effect how my trip was. There was plenty of entertainment every night. The 80s show was fantastic. Your sign and sail cards are always put in your mailbox. This is not something new. Making a reservation for dining was super easy. We just waited in our room or bar until table was ready and than started walking. Pool was not murky at all. Water was crystal clear. It’s the color of the pool walls that give water a cloudy appearance. Now as far as Covid, that is definitely not Carnivals fault. We saw staff cleaning continuously onboard. Unfortunately Covid is here to stay and we so many people crammed into places inside, some people are bound to get sick. My cruise to Alaska over the summer was a Covid fest. Did I blame Carnival?, no. It is what it is. Didn’t stop me from having fun.
Covid is all around us and here to stay. You can get covid anywhere, and blaming the cruise line is childish, especially saying you will never cruise that line again. Sounds to me, you would have been miserable on this cruise no matter how it went. I just came off the Norwegian Sky and there was an indent under the carpet probably from rust, but am I going to complain about how it ruined my cruise because they dont maintain the ship......noooooooo.
I think the primary issue is you do not like Carnival, correct? Here is what I am hearing. Roaches crawling? Could come from anyone of over a thousand passengers past or current. Unclean ship? You can not touch a rail without someone wiping it down right behind you. Embarkation? has always been in a big hall no matter what cruiseline. The room key? You could have asked one of over a thousand people how to get that and gotten the same answer. Covid. Well, everyone above and below this comment addressed this issue. Some of the complaints you mention although are valid can easily have been answered and resolved.
Honestly you can get Covid on ANY cruise line. I’ve been on so many carnival cruises and they clean like crazy. I went on the conquest in June and got Covid but that doesn’t mean I got it from the ship. I could’ve gotten it at a port of call. Don’t blame Carnival.
You can contract Covid from a restaurant, church, a flight. Anywhere.
I've been on 3 Carnival cruises since COVID. I didn't get COVID. If I had I wouldn't blame Carnival. You could have caught it at Walmart (or anywhere) before you boarded the ship.
We were on 3 cruises this year, all Carnival. January “Masked” March no Mask but recommend, August No Mask but recommended. We came home with Covid from our August Cruise, however I don’t have an idea where we caught it. I CANNOT BLAME ANYONE. Nor would I, I knew the risk prior to Cruising.
How can you be 100% sure that it’s the ship’s fault. I’m sure you visited a few ports and most probably went through an airport and on a plane with lots of people in all those areas. Not sure why when someone catches covid on a cruise it’s always automatically the cruise ship’s fault.
